The role is within the Coast Area Pricing Team; a regional team responsible for the operational pricing and measurement of all timber harvested within the Coast Forest Region of British Columbia.

Usable and accessible data is critical to the success of the team.

Effective access to data has the power to enable new insights, improve system designs, and deliver previously unattainable organizational goals.

Reporting to the Business Analysis Forester, the role is responsible for

(a) development of queries and tools which provide connectivity to the corporate database;
(c) improving data management practices; and

(d) defining how data is stored, organized, managed, retrieved, shared, and manipulated.

The role is a new to the team.

With support from the team lead and the Analysis Forester, the Business Intelligence Specialist can ideally self-lead projects after having been given a problem or concept to address.

The Business Intelligence Specialist will work closely with other technical experts within the Coast Area Pricing Team, Provincial Pricing Team, and Information Technology (IT) team.

The scope of projects may be regional or provincial in scope. The role is highly collaborative and may vary depending on operational needs. The data analyst may also be deployed on special projects within other business units depending on needs.

The ultimate objective is to provide clean usable information, provide analytics, and identify problem areas in a contextual and meaningful way.


By finding innovative solutions the role can be instrumental in shaping future of the Coast Area Pricing team which will ultimately affect crown revenue and the competitiveness of the forest sector.


This job could be the ideal next step in your career whether you're new to government, or already in the Public Service.

This role may also allow you to leverage into higher level opportunities within the IT team or other roles that are provincial in scope.

Job Requirements:


  • Diploma, certification or equivalent combination of education, training and experience as a programmer/analyst or program related area or equivalent.

Preference may be given to those with, one or more of the following:

  • Experience working with Information Management (IM) / Information Technology (IT) staff.
  • Experience with user support, data integrity, testing, and the development of analytical reports;
  • Experience with relational databases, database management, and Oracle;
  • A related degree or equivalent (e.g., computer science degree); and/or

There is currently one
(1) full-time permanent position available.
This position is located in Nanaimo.
Relocation expenses may be available.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 3 days at home per week as per the Telework Agreement.

An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
