Job Summary


As a part of Calgary Economic Development's Economic Intelligence (EI) Team, the Director, Data & Intelligence will define the research process and foresight integration, manage CED's data platform, proactively build dashboards to monitor critical insights about Calgary's competitiveness, contribute to sector strategy formation and build a toolkit that acts as the source of truth for all departments within the organization.

This is a full-time permanent position.

**Key Responsibilities

  • Maximize the potential and use of Google Cloud / Google BigQuery by exploring new technologies such as AI and ML that can unlock hidden patterns and opportunity within CED's primary and partnerprovided data.
  • Proactively build dashboards to monitor critical insights about Calgary, enable trend discovery and unlock selfserve data options.
  • Support the EI team in building knowledge on SQL and Python coding that is critical to the successful utilization of the data platform.
  • Guide the creation and disbursement of Power BI dashboards that support decision making, discovery and strategy formation throughout CED.
  • In close collaboration with teams across CED, guide sectorspecific research processes that incorporates research and foresight to produce new discoveries that equip CED with critical information required for business attraction, retention and expansion activities.
  • Distribute information internally and/or externally and centralize access for longterm storage and discovery in CED's SharePoint.
  • Project and process manage all research engagements to ensure optimal resource allocation, timely execution and to meet critical funding deadlines, when required.
  • Manage the RFP process from creation to execution and identify appropriate consulting partners, when required.
  • Manage a team of 45 talented individuals.
  • Maintain and advocate for appropriate team resources to support all projects and initiatives.

Let's Talk About You
You have advanced knowledge of data ingestion, transformation, and visualization tools, particularly Power BI. You possess excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex data concepts to non-technical parties concerned.


You are a strategic thinker with the ability to guide the effective integration of research and foresight practices with a focus driving continuous improvement and innovation.

You have proven project management skills with the ability to multi-task and budget for several projects at once.

You are collaborative, detailed-oriented, deliver high-quality work and thrive in a fast-paced environment.


Education:

Bachelor's degree in Economics, Business, Social Science, Data Science or data related field


Experience:


  • Minimum 8 years' experience in a managerial capacity
  • Project Management experience is highly desirable. Credential not required.
  • Knowledge of data systems and using data for decision making (ideally Google Cloud Platform and Power BI); coding skills
  • Experience in monitoring and analyzing macro and/or micro economic trends considered an asset.
