Complexity and Scope of the Position
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Communications, the Translator will work in the Translation Department, in close contact with a variety of internal departments from the head office in Mississauga and the Montreal Corporate Office, as well as external translation firms.
He/she will also negotiate document delivery dates and send overflow translation projects to external firms, ensuring all company terminology and deadlines are respected.
The Translator will review documents and make any necessary corrections before delivering them to clients.He/she will regularly update translation-related data, such as the number of documents and words translated, budgetary resources, productivity, etc., and prepare reports for the Communications Department.
Key Activities:
- Download and process all translation requests for the company's internal weekly newsletter
- Manage requests related to the company newsletter from the Montreal Corporate Office concerning the province of Quebec
- Assist in preparing the French version of the company newsletter and other weekly documents as needed
- Coordinate and participate as needed in the revising process, ensuring consistency, while maintaining Chartwell's brand voice, tone and terminology
- Maintain the company's translation memory tool to ensure continually updated terminology
- Followup on work done by the external firms
- Verify references, translation and selfcorrection of translated texts and make all necessary changes before delivering documents to clients
- Build close working relationships with internal departments and support them, putting a specific emphasis on customer service and showing flexibility as needed
- Assist with the coordination of largescale projects
- Manage requests sent to the Translation Department inbox
- Prioritize requests around the publication of the internal weekly newsletter and the external subscriber newsletter
- Collaborate with the Senior Manager, Communications, on French content (revise content for marketing, corporate communications, social media, the biannual magazine and other publications)
- Perform other tasks and special projects as required by Chartwell (downloads, factchecking, French versions, etc.), ensuring that deadlines are respected
Experience:
- The Translator must have two to five years of experience in translation and communications
Education:
Bachelor's degree in translation, linguistics or communications, or certification with a recognized professional organization, such as OTTIAQ
Skills & Abilities:
- Complete fluency in French and English (both written and verbal)
- Knowledge of the structure and content of English and French languages, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar, and pronunciation
- Flexibility, adaptability, ability to work well under pressure
- Excellent interpersonal skills and capacity to interact effectively with customers at all levels of the organization and to work in a team
- Ability to multitask in order to manage timelines and meet defined deadlines
- Excellent time management skills and ability to work in a fastpaced work environment
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Suite)
- Familiarity with translation memory and management software (Echo and Broca, an asset)
Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure that all language used in French content complies with corporate and Quebec provincial standards
- Follow ethical codes that protect the confidentiality of information
