ABSENCE AND ABILITY MANAGEMENT OFFICER


Working collaboratively as part the Human Resources Service Dept, the officer will report to the Senior Manager Human Resources and Labour Relations.

This position will be accountable and responsible for the ongoing development and implementation of the Absence and Ability Management program.

The incumbent will be responsible for providing guidance and support on attendance, wellness and the administration of occupational and non-occupational illnesses and injuries, in support of safe and timely return, while ensuring compliance with applicable legislation.


Responsibilities:

Conduct case management, including adjudication of cases, for occupational and non occupational absences.

Collaborate with system and school leaders to develop and implement a comprehensive employee support and wellness strategy.

Ability to gather meaningful data to provide detailed analysis of trends, prepare statistical reports and respond to challenges.


Collaborate with employees, management, union partners, and third-party insurance providers, in support and promotion of employee health and wellness strategies.

Develop and utilize early intervention strategies and resources in support of employee wellness.

Design and deliver employee absence support, and wellness training programs to stakeholders.

Actively participate on the Wellness Committee.

Preferred Qualifications

Post secondary education in a related field including, Human Resources, Disability Management, Healthcare or Rehabilitation Counselling.

Experience in design and implementation of return to work, wellness, and disability management programs.

Working knowledge of rehabilitation, ergonomics, collective agreements, conflict resolution and supportive counselling techniques.


Demonstrated experience in problem-solving and conflict resolution utilized with employees, system leaders, school administrators, union representatives, healthcare professionals and insurance carriers.

A Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation or equivalent is an asset.


Professional designation in Disability Management such as Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP), Registered Rehabilitation Professional (RRP), Certified Return to Work Coordinator (CRWC), would be considered an asset.


If not in receipt of above, willing to obtain Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP) Designation and / or other related training.

Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Experience

Related experience in occupational and non-occupational disability management, attendance support, wellness initiatives, workplace accommodation and case management.

Familiarity with collective agreement and working in a unionized environment a definite asset.


Demonstrated knowledge of the following:

Employment Standards, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act.


Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills and ability to manage complex return to work processes in a fast-paced environment.

Strong data analysis skills along with high level of personal integrity, confidentiality, relationship building and time management skills.

Ability to work as part of a team, and independently with mínimal supervision.
