The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) is seeking a Vice-President, Public Affairs and Communications to join a team working to protect our most precious and life-giving natural environments.

NCC is the leading non-governmental organization dedicated to private land conservation in Canada.

A charitable organization, it works in partnership with individuals, Indigenous communities, businesses, governments and other not-for-profit organizations to protect Canada's most important natural treasures and provide nature-based solutions.

It achieves its mission through its collaborative, evidence-based approach.

Since 1962, NCC and its partners have helped conserve more than 15 million hectares of natural environments from coast to coast to coast.

The organization has its national office in Toronto and regional offices across the country.

The Vice-President, Public Affairs and Communications is responsible for leading and overseeing NCC's external communications program across Canada.


JOB BRIEF


Reporting directly to the President and CEO, the person selected for the position of Vice-President, Public Relations and Communications will be an integral part of the senior management team.

In this role, she will establish and lead NCC's corporate and external communications strategy, demonstrating a high degree of independence and accountability.

Working closely with leaders in other units, she will increase awareness, advance NCC's thought leadership and strategic positioning, while protecting its excellent reputation.

She will also be responsible for promoting a strategic, creative and coherent approach to communicating NCC's ambition and promoting its progress, achievements and impact to target audiences including partners, donors, influencers and the public, with a view to increasing support and achieving the objectives of the organization's Strategic Plan.


The Vice-President, Public Affairs and Communications (VP) works with various internal and external stakeholders to maintain and promote NCC's brand and reputation.

It is her responsibility to develop consistent messages for all stakeholders that clearly communicate the organization's purpose, progress and impacts in a way that reaches all relevant audiences.

He or she provides leadership and strategic direction for communications to all business units, including seven regional, to match actions and messages across the country and amplify NCC's reach and impact.

Demonstrating a high level of collaboration, the VP will work closely with the Marketing and Development team and other business units to ensure consistency in communications, events and projects.


The VP is responsible for the development, integration and implementation of a wide range of activities related to the organization's positioning and leadership with key audiences.

As an NCC Ambassador, he or she leads a proactive and highly effective media relations program, a thought leadership program and a strong content creation department to build NCC's reputation with relevant audiences and foster greater awareness and support from donors.


The VP leads a content creation team that plans and executes communications activities including an organizational content strategy, public relations and issues management, media relations and the production of high-quality communications materials that showcase NCC's work.

The VP is responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing and evaluating communication output and results.

In this context, it is his responsibility to translate objectives into plans and tactics that leverage multiple platforms and channels.


RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Planning

Design and coordinate effective strategic communications programs that reflect the goals of NCC's Strategic Plan.

Provide leadership and oversight by developing a planned approach to external communication by channel to advance the priorities of the Strategic Plan.


Direct responsibilities associated with the position include:
Narrative approach and strategy to organizational content
Public relations
Proactive Media Relations
Management of reputation and issues affecting the image of the organization
CEO and Senior Management Profiles
Content production (digital and print)
Design, alignment and functionality of NCC websites
Measurement and reporting

Translate strategy into plan(s) to deliver an integrated communications program that increases awareness of NCC's impact, success and results.
Advance NCC's organizational priorities through effective communications with key audiences, including stakeholders, partners, influencers and the public.
Develop integrated public and media relations strategies to support NCC's position as a leader in conservation (and conservation science).
Collaborate across the organization (and cross-functional teams) to promote and leverage NCC's key initiatives.
