About Us:


The Retail, Distribution and Coal Transition branch manages the legislation, regulations, policy, and programs for the electricity and natural gas retail markets and distribution systems.


Role:


The Ministry of Affordability and Utilities has an exciting opportunity for creative individuals who are eager to strategize and develop policy on the future of electricity and natural gas retail markets and distribution systems to achieve Alberta's priorities.


These positions are responsible for providing in-depth research, analysis, forecasting and economics modelling related to retail market policies and distribution systems for both electricity and natural gas.

Role(s) include providing sound advice and recommendations on public policy related to retail electricity and natural gas markets and distribution systems.

Also includes engaging, collaborating and consulting with internal and external stakeholders to respond to emerging issues and to provide policy clarity and support.


These positions will provide project management support and coordination for retail and distribution policy and program development, will provide leadership and coordination for project and program implementation, will actively participate in committees and initiatives and will support the design and implementation of new distribution policies and retail grant programs including the corresponding guidelines, budget forms and cash flow models.

Qualifications:


University graduation in economics, business, engineering, political science, environmental science, law, public administration, or a related field, plus two years progressively responsible related experience in electricity and natural gas markets; or equivalent as described below.


Equivalencies:

Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.


Assets:


  • In depth knowledge of electricity and retail natural gas industry
  • Project Management Certification is considered an asset.
  • Ability to perform complex analysis and research.
  • Experience managing multiple projects or priorities.
  • Indepth knowledge of the broad range of issues in other jurisdictions related to electricity and natural gas retail markets and distribution systems policies.
  • Work experience from the electricity industry or the natural gas retail and distribution system industry will be considered an asset.

To be successful in this role, the incumbent must possess the following competencies:

Salary:

$2,588.06 to $3,397.76 bi-weekly ($67,548 - $88,681/year)
