Qualifications

  • Required
  • A BA in Human Resources management or relate field or commensurate experience
  • Three to five years of progressive HR experience, preferably in the Non Profit/Charity sector
  • Human Resources certification (CHRP or CHRL) or the willingness to work towards certification
  • Strong commitment to MCC's theology and philosophy of service
  • Knowledgeable of Human Resources best practices, regulations, and legislative changes
  • Able to think analytically about the HR function and develop metrics and measures to evaluate programs
  • Ability to develop and implement HR strategies while balancing the daytoday tactical HR needs
  • Results oriented through excellent organization/prioritization skills/time management
  • Strong demonstrated professionalism, confidentiality, and judgment
  • Strong interpersonal/relationship building skills with proven ability to influence and negotiate, collaborate, defuse/reconcile, and remedy stakeholder issues to create winwin
  • Excellent communication, presentation, organizational and facilitation skills
  • Ability to assess root cause and successfully advise on complex employee relations issues utilizing effective conflict resolutions skills
  • Proven experience supervising staff and managing a team
  • Proficient using a variety of standard software programs including Microsoft office and HRIS
  • Valid 'G' Ontario driver's license
  • Police vulnerable sector check (required upon hire)
  • Legally able to work in Canada

Job Synopsis

  • The Human Resources Manager is responsible for the effective management of the daily functions and strategic elements of the HR department. This full time position plays a crucial role in building, maintaining, and enhancing the organization's human resources by leading the HR staff team in providing expertise in all functional areas of human resources. This role ensures the organization has the structure, culture and talent needed to deliver on strategic objectives. This role also oversees volunteer management.
The Human Resources Manager reports to the Senior Leadership Team.

This position supervises 5 positions within the HR team:
Payroll and Benefits and HRIS Administrator, HR Recruiter, Human Resources Generalist, Volunteer Services Manager, and HR Admin Assistant. This is a management position and thus exempt from provincial overtime legislative requirements.

Currently, this is a hybrid role with the expectation of being at the 50 Kent office 2-3 days a week.

The HR Manager is an active member of MCCO's Cross Department Leadership (CDL) Team and Core Services Team.

This position works in partnership with the MCC Canada HR network to collaborate on HR programs and initiatives that benefit all MCC staff.

MCC supports activities that provide emergency assistance, reduce poverty, and promote healthy communities, sustainable living and alternatives to violence.

As an internationally recognized NGO, MCC currently serves in more than 45 countries with over 475 partners, 1,000 staff and 40,000 volunteers.


Challenges

Key Responsibilities

  • Departmental Development and Oversight
  • Lead the Human Resources planning, monitoring, evaluation and reporting development including special project plans and annual plans
  • Develop and administer programs, procedures, and guidelines to help align the workforce with the strategic goals of the organization
  • Develop appropriate budgets within MCCO budgeting system and cycle
  • Monitor and evaluate success over time according to indicators identified. Develop reports that not only track indicators but also include analysis and projections
  • Actively participate in MCCO Cross Departmental Leaders (CDL) Team
  • Represent MCCO in MCCC Human Resources network. Participate in collaborative efforts and represent Ontario in system decisionmaking.
  • Provide leadership and support to Human Resources staff. Conduct regular staff checkins and annual performance appraisal process including development of work plans connected to strategic and project plans

  • Design and lead the onboarding process, ensuring that it provides clarity and connection for employees so their roles serve the overall organization mission
