What you'll do

  • If you're the kind of person who is curious about how data informs library services, come join our team We are seeking a library technician to join us at our North Vancouver Campus.

Based within the Technical Services area, we are looking for someone who will support access to library materials by assisting in the collection and management of library data, testing new electronic resources, participating in projects, and working directly with students, staff, faculty, and the broader community at our service desk.

You will be part of an integrated team that provides services, resources, and spaces that contribute to creating a distinct university experience that sparks the imagination and creativity of our community.- You will receive direction from the Technical Services Supervisor, guidance from the Library Systems Analyst and the Library Services Supervisor, work closely with various librarians, and report to the University Librarian.

This role requires you to assist the library team in ensuring access to new and existing electronic resources; as well as extracting data on library activities, collections, usage, and budgets.

You will support projects by contributing to planning, execution, and reporting; developing and editing procedures; and providing support in cataloguing workflows.

In addition, you will collaborate with your colleagues and interact with students, faculty, and members of the community by providing referral and information services, such as locating print and digital resources, circulating materials, creating user accounts, providing printing technical support, handling payments, maintaining patron and item records, and performing opening/closing duties.

The applicant should have experience with:

  • Information organization and retrieval in a library environment
  • Integrated Library Systems (ILS) (Capilano University Library uses Sierra)
  • Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, & PowerPoint)

What you'll bring

  • Completion of a twoyear Library Technology diploma comparable to the programs offered at Langara College or University of the Fraser Valley.
  • Two years of library technical services, cataloguing, ILL, or other related experience.
