    Description

    Junior Achievement Southern Alberta is dedicated to educating and inspiring young Albertans to succeed in a global economy and offers in-school and after-school programs in the areas of work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy. JA works in partnership with educators, volunteers and businesses to help youth increase their potential, engage in their own economic development, and contribute to the strength of their community and Canada's economy. In the last academic year, the JA Southern Alberta team ran 2500 programs impacting over 63,000 youth across southern Alberta, our biggest impact to date.

    The Specialist, Communications and Events reports to the President and CEO working collaboratively with all teams on communications and events initiatives. The Specialist is primarily responsible for coordinating JA Southern Alberta's ongoing marketing, communication, and social media activities. The role will also support the Programs and Development & Engagement teams to develop, deploy and maintain communication assets and platforms ensuring the overall brand, marketing and communications needs are met. The ideal candidate will be a strong and energetic communicator, writer and natural collaborator with diverse marketing and technology capabilities.

    ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. COMMUNICATIONS

    o Working with the applicable team/project lead, formulate communication strategies and plans for specific audiences (stakeholders, students, teachers, volunteers, etc.) maintaining JA brand standards and key messages.

    o Build and deploy a weekly editorial calendar and annual calendar for social media posts, newsletters and other communications targeted to specific stakeholder audiences and events; Deploy strategy and manage channels.

    o Create and deploy marketing material for fundraising events such as the Alberta Hall of Fame.

    o Coordinate and write communication pieces for external audiences (i.e. speaking notes, newsletters) about the organization's mission, key messaging and overall program of work and achievements.

    o Develop templates, project plans and other collateral for team communication purposes.

    o Develop a library of marketing assets (photos, videos, impact stories) for audiences and programs.

    o Coordinate development of strategic communications activities including JA Southern Alberta annual report for key stakeholders (i.e. government, corporate donors).

    o Project management with vendors such as videographers and photographers.

    o Write and/or assist in writing funding applications and reports for stakeholders.

    o Maintain and update website as needed.

    2. EVENTS

    o Assist with the marcom needs and related event planning for engagement events such as the Alberta Business Hall of Fame, including an announcement event and the gala and induction ceremony.

    o Support programming team with marcom needs for JA Southern Alberta student or donor-focused events as required such as World of Choices and Company Program events.

    o Write/update Event Briefs including for VIP speakers and attendees.

    o Onsite support at events; Manage registration, VIPs and other event-related administrative functions.

    3. ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT

    o Represent the office of the President and CEO and Junior Achievement in a professional, customer-focused manner and provide daily administrative support.

    o Assist in onboarding and training new employees.

    o Working with the President and CEO, coordinate Board and Committee meetings, preparing meeting, agendas, presentation decks and all other relevant materials, while overseeing meeting logistics.

    o Attend all Director meetings and required committee meetings as Recording Secretary. Minutes are required for meetings of the Board of Directors and Finance Committee meetings.

    o Administrative tasks related to the organization's communications: general inbox management, courier and surface mail administration, running errands, etc.

    o Support the CEO and President with additional administrative initiatives and projects, as required.

    EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

    o Post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant discipline

    o 3-5 years communications and/or event/project management experience

    o Proven interpersonal and relationship management skills

    o Strong verbal and written communication skills; excellent attention to detail

    o Strong time management and organizational skills; self-reliant and detail-oriented

    o Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

    o Proficiency with MS Office

    o Experience with EventBrite, MailChimp and/or Constant Contact an asset

    o Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and Canva an asset
