Queen Margaret's School is seeking a full time Maintenance Worker.
The Maintenance Worker works as part of our Facilities Department Team and shares responsibility for maintaining a safe, well-maintained campus that is welcoming for students, staff, and visitors to Queen Margaret's School.
With many varieties of trees, plants, and a thriving Equestrian Centre, it is essential that the grounds are kept in a well-maintained manner to provide an inspirational learning environment for our students.
This position would suit someone with a willingness to learn and training is available if required.Responsibilities:
Support the School in the general upkeep of the School campus:
- Minor electrical tasks, minor carpentry tasks, minor plumbing tasks and carpentry work
- Painting and touchups
- Perform small repairs and maintenance tasks
- Fence repair
- Identify and report any issues or areas in need of repair
- Work independently and be able to follow work orders
- Harrowing and general upkeep of riding rings (indoor and outdoor)
- Playing field maintenance, including sprinkler system
- Debris removal
- Flower bed maintenance (planting, watering, weeding, mulching)
- Invasive species control (ivy maintenance)
- Keeping pathways and walkways clear and free of hazards
- In winter, ice and snow removal
- Support scheduled school activities and community use of buildings, and arrange needed services, such as outdoor furniture set up and removal
- Support the Facilities Manager to organize the major outdoor cleaning tasks needed during scheduled school closures
- Work with the Facilities Manager to ensure all equipment used within the housekeeping are maintained in safe, working order
- Be knowledgeable about WHMIS manuals and SDS sheets required for products used within role
- Be willing to attend and practice safetyrelated training provided by the School
Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience using hand tools (drills, shop tools)
- Experience working as a handy person, painter or similar role
- Good communication skills
- Working knowledge of basic horticultural management, such as irrigation, tree care, pruning, compost management
- Working knowledge of the materials and methods used in related trades (light carpentry, painting)
- Ability to operate in a safe and efficient manner a variety of hand and riding mowers, light trucks and trailers, and tractors with related grounds equipment
- Experience harrowing fields and other maintenancerelated tasks such as fence repair required in a working barn
- Class 5 Drivers' License
- Level 1 First Aid certification
- WHMIS Certification
- Some heavy lifting and carrying may be required
- Overhead lifting may be required
- Operation of machinery (not heavy) and use of scaffolds may be required
