Position Overview:


Under the general supervision of the Payroll & Pension Supervisor, this position ensures that all employees and Pensioners of the City of Saint John are paid accurately and on time by verifying all inputs to the system are correct and all payroll data is transferred to the correct entities for appropriate distribution.


Key Responsibilities:


Provide support to the Payroll & Pension Supervisor with year-end functions, account reconciliations, payroll and pension reporting, data system upgrades and T4 adjustments.

Participate in projects and substantiate, in report form, relevant findings.


Assist in annual audits including running reports, providing data, reconciliation of bank accounts and payroll expenses and benefits, and CRA Tax reconciliations.

Responds to internal and external client inquiries on payroll and pension questions.
Provides required information to the Payroll & Pension Supervisor as requested.

Ensures that all employees of the City of Saint John and Pension members are paid accurately and on time.

Responsible for the accurate reporting of payroll information for both internal and external requirements. The Payroll & Pension Assistant reviews, audits, prepares information and inputs maintaining records, computerized systems and reports as required.

Providing professional customer service to internal and external requests.

Supports the month and year end processes to ensure timely and accurate records.


Provides support and backup to the Payroll and Pension Supervisor during vacations and peak periods including year end and various projects.


Essential Qualifications:

Must have or be able to obtain Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) Certification with the Canadian Payroll Association.

Successful completion of a one to two year post-secondary program in a related field.

Minimum of 3 years experience processing in-house payroll within a computerized environment.

A combination of education and experience will be considered.


Note:

all applicants being considered will be required to successfully pass the Payroll Knowledge Evaluator provided by the Canadian Payroll Association to qualify.


In addition to full proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point, has a strong working knowledge of job specific software such as ROE Web.

Superior attention to detail and time management skills essential.

Working in a unionized environment an asset.
