General Description:
The Alberta NDP Caucus is seeking to hire a qualified, motivated and experienced individual to provide legislative, parliamentary and research support services to the NDP Caucus Members in their parliamentary and committee activities.
Duties:
Reporting to the Director of Policy, the Policy Officer provides thorough and accurate legislative, parliamentary and research support services to the NDP Caucus Members in their parliamentary and committee activities.
The Officer investigates and analyzes a wide range of public policy issues; provides accurate and timely information on government programs; prepares politically sensitive briefing notes and background reports; prepares speaking notes, questions and other documents required for the legislative work of MLAs; and establishes collaborative relationships with public policy stakeholders.
Policy Officers also provide support to caucus policy committees.Qualifications and Skills:
- University graduation in a pertinent field
- Excellent research skills using a variety of research methods
- Strong familiarity with parliamentary operations and procedures
- A good understanding of bills, motions and other legislative matters
- Experience in research and preparing background briefing notes
- Experience in public policy research
- The ability to meet deadlines and work with a minimum of supervision
- Good work planning skills
- The ability to work collaboratively in a team setting
- Interest in, and knowledge of, Alberta political affairs
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills
- Ability to project a professional attitude and tact in interactions with both internal and external contacts
- Ability to adapt to a changing and fluid working environment involving unusual shifts, long hours, travel, and competing priorities

Salary:
$65,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
