Accounting Assistant - Summer Position

Contract (Tentative): April 22, 16
week duration)

Wage:
$18.00/hour


Hours: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM, 37.5 hours/week

The Accounts Payable Accounting Assistant assists the Director of Finance and the accounting team by carrying out Accounts Payable responsibilities, banking, and general accounting functions.

This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs Grant; to be considered for this position you must meet ALL the following requirements:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period;
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

Position Responsibilities

  • Support the BSCS agency in optimizing and managing financial transactions and expenses.
  • Help AP team with processing PO's and Invoices, and expenses etc.
  • Help Accounts Receivable assistant with reconciliation and AR entry.
  • Help with filing the invoices and POs in our filing cabinet.
  • Help with preparation of AP manual for staff.
  • BSCS is more than a workplace. It is a community where everyone helps and contributes to the whole, and there is an expectation that all employees will take part in events (during the work week and occasionally during weekends and evenings). This includes fundraising campaigns, running community meals, medicine picking etc.
  • All other duties as outlined by Senior Accountants and Senior Manager.

This includes fundraising campaigns, running community meals, medicine picking etc.

Qualifications

  • Meet all Canada Summer Jobs Requirements
  • Police Check with the Vulnerable Sector and Child and Youth Intervention Check completed within the past six months.
  • Valid First Aid certificate or enrolled in a future course.
  • Experience with and knowledge of Indigenous culture and ceremonies is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines.
  • Basic Understanding of financial principles, accounting, and bookkeeping
