Under the general direction of the Business Communications Coordinator, the Field Operations Communications Assistant provides assistance in the preparation, daily operation and distribution of various customer service information and services.


As the _Field Operations Communications Assistant,_
_ _you will**:

  • Assist with planning, coordinating, preparing and implementing various customer service information, services and processes related to departmental services, such as:
  • Customer notices/letters (i.e., emergency and planned work, service changes)
  • Website/311 information
  • News releases and social media posts
  • Advertising campaigns
  • Monitor 311 and work management systems to identify any emerging customer service issues and bring these issues to the attention of operational staff.
  • Liaise with operational staff and the 311 Contact Centre to develop relevant and uptodate scripting and information to meet customer and operational needs.
  • Coordinate and deliver training/coaching to 311 Contact Centre staff on departmental services.
  • Draft, review and revise web content to ensure that information is relevant and uptodate.
  • Monitor social media, and prepare and/or publish approved content through various forms of social media (i.e., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).
  • Assist with and/or draft responses to public inquiries and/or requests for departmental information.
  • Research, investigate and gather information regarding departmental services.
  • Recommend process improvements related to the customer experience.
  • Coordinate participation in community events and shows, and attend these events/shows as required.
  • Coordinate and deliver presentations to community groups/schools as required.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the classification as required.

Your education and qualifications include:


  • High School graduation, supplemented by postsecondary courses and/or diploma in the area of Creative Communications, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Minimum 6 months of prior related work experience.
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in the area of writing and editing clearly and concisely, and in a manner that is easily understood by the general public.
  • Demonstrated strong presentation skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with a variety of people.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow written and verbal instructions, and to exercise sound judgment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under mínimal supervision, deal with stress and set priorities during extremely busy periods.
  • Good organizational skills and demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to speak additional languages is preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the occupational hazards, safety precautions, regulations and procedures applicable to the area of work.
