Position Description:

We are currently seeking an Interfaith Staff Chaplain to provide spiritual and religious care to patients, families, and staff. SickKids provides care to an incredibly diverse group of patients and families, from all over the world.

The Interfaith chaplains play an important role in fostering a safe and healing environment, one that is welcoming and embracing of all people with varied life experiences, identities, and affiliations.

We are looking for someone who has great willingness to learn and be a part of multidisciplinary teams.

This role involves the participation in interprofessional team meetings to contribute to the holistic planning of care for patients and families.

The Interfaith Staff Chaplain will coordinate spiritual care and religious services as appropriate and assist the Senior Manager with any additional duties to advance the department¿s goals in providing excellent child and family-centred care.


Here¿s What You¿ll Get To Do

  • Provide Spiritual & Religious Care throughout the hospital, in all the units and programs as needed by patients, families, and staff
  • Participate in staff planning for patient and family care, meeting with staff individually or as a team to plan and facilitate more comprehensive and holistic patient care
  • Provide staff support and education, meeting with staff for their own pastoral and emotional support and for inservice education on such matters as the role of the chaplain in health care, coping with the dying patient, death and bereavement, and specific religious and ethical issues as they arise
  • Coordinate appropriate pastoral care and religious services for patients and families and connect with denominational chaplains, community clergy, and churches to support families¿ needs
  • Assist in the Mindfulness Project as Facilitator of Programs
  • Collaborate with other members of the healthcare teams to ensure patients and families receive culturally safe, spiritual, and or religious care as needed

Here¿s What You¿ll Need

  • Bachelors Degree in a related discipline; Masters Degree in Theology or equivalent is preferred
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Certification in the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy.
  • Minimum of 2 years previous jobrelated experience
  • Endorsement by faith group
  • Ability to respect both faith uniqueness and faith differences
  • Demonstrated commitment and actions in advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion objectives
  • Willingness to work weekends and/or evenings
  • Collaborative mindset with willingness to be flexible with one¿s schedule to meet needs of patients and families
  • Mindfulness training an asset
  • Trauma training an asset
  • End of life and bereavement experience and training an asset
  • Certification in CPSP, CASC or equivalent an asset
  • Certification with CRPO an asset

Employment Type
Permanent part-time, 0.50 FTE

This position offers health and dental coverage, vacation time, sick time, personal days. and pension plan.
