Horizon Retirement Management is a private seniors' residence (RPA) manager with 8 residences in the greater Montreal area and in Ottawa.

We are looking for a full-time permanent Activities Assistant for our residence for seniors in Ottawa._
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Diploma and/or Certificate in postsecondary education relating to Recreation or Fitness or Social Work or PSW or other related courses acceptable to retirement living
- Experience working with seniors
- Knowledge and experience of event planning
- Basic computer skills (MS Office) is a must
- Current First Aid and CPR certification
- Experience with and training in dementia care
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
(not required but asset to have):
- Senior Exercise Certifications
- Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) in Dementia Care
- Inclusion Training
- Food handlers course
- Smart Serve
- Valid bus driver's license (F Class or higher)
THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE MUST HAVE:
- Ability to promote an active lifestyle within the greater community.
- Ability to organize, supervise, and direct others; assume and delegate responsibility; accept advice and consultation
- Ability to transfer/transport residents, tables, chairs and activity equipment and assist residents getting on and off the bus
- Excellent organizational, time management and planning skills
- Ability to communicate and be team oriented yet work individually as well
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to multitask, think on your feet and problem solve
- Exemplary customer service skills
- Excellent active listening skills
- Common sense, patience and the ability to put the residents and needs of the overall team first is a must.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in the planning, implementation and evaluation of programs that include large groups, small groups and one to one programs.
- Assist and/or lead group or one to one programs.
- Report any incidents or unusual changes in resident behaviour to nursing staff and Activities Manager.
- Remind and direct residents to and from program area.
- Provide solution based problem solving skills.
- Assist with seasonal decoration.
- Provide direction and supervision to volunteers.
- Participate at staff meetings, resident conferences (if required), inservice programs, annual training and other meetings as assigned.
- Perform daily administrative tasks on the computer with proficiency.
- Assist in maintaining all work areas, equipment and supplies and ensuring they are kept in a neat and safe manner.
- Perform related duties as required.
- Report any safety hazards or procedural difficulties to the Management staff.
- Work evenings and weekends as required (job requirements are every other weekend and every other Friday evening).
RATE OF PAY:
$16.67 per hour, as per union collective agreement. Health & Medical Benefits (eligible after 3 months)
