This position is a part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA).


In accordance with the Administrative and Professional Officer Agreement, this full-time continuing position offers a comprehensive benefits package found at Faculty & Staff Benefits and an annual salary range of $66,167 to $110,279.


Location - North Campus Edmonton. This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person.

Position


The Strategic Initiatives Officer (SIO) is a key member of the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Leadership team who provides planning, monitoring, and managing of specific initiatives and projects at the department and university level from initiation through completion including the prioritization of multiple, complex initiatives with varying completion dates.

The Strategic Initiatives Officer contributes to the establishment of HSE's strategic priorities and budget, is responsible for enhancing and maintaining the university's Health, Safety and Environment Management System and ARISE database, leads projects, manages emerging issues, conducts research, writes reports, coordinates HSE communications and represents the unit at key institutional meetings.


In all facets of this role, this position endeavours to integrate and advance the University's commitments to equity, diversity and inclusivity while understanding, fulfilling and promoting Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) responsibilities identified in university policy.


Duties


This position deals with a broad range of strategic and operational initiatives with a university-wide scope including HRHSE, and all colleges, faculties and portfolios.

Depending on the nature of the initiative, it may also involve government departments, regulatory bodies and organizations external to the university.


  • Provide clear and understandable advice and recommendations based on experience and knowledge to support informed decisionmaking by leaders.
  • Uses compelling and wellresearched arguments to convey recommendations, possible solutions, and new ideas.
  • Facilitates discussions and negotiations to foster successful implementation of portfolio initiatives.
  • Actively participates in area meetings to gather information and to provide information on proposed and ongoing initiatives.
  • Participates actively in communities of practice.
  • Coordinates HSE communications with External Relations to facilitate the effective communication of health and safety information, resources and messages across the university
  • Develops health and safety training programs and other educational content in support of HSE objectives.
  • Manages and continually enhances the university's Health, Safety and Environment Management System and ARISE database.
