About the Opportunity:


The Department of Psychiatry at Dalhousie University is recruiting for a fulltime psychiatrist for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) care as part of the Community Health and Addictions (CMHA) services of the Adult Mental Health and Addictions Program (MHAP) of the Central Zone of the Nova Scotia Health Authority (CZ-NSHA).

The Department of Psychiatry is a mid-sized clinical academic department within the Faculty of Medicine at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Faculty in the Department of Psychiatry work as members of multidisciplinary teams within the Nova Scotia Health Mental Health and Addiction Program to provide general psychiatric services to patients primarily in the Central Zone and specialty services to patients across the province.


Roles & Responsibilities:


  • Promotes excellence in clinical and academic work by the services in relation to strategic planning, quality assurance/improvement, and resource allocation, with particular attention to patients who have ASD.
  • Builds capacity of other health care providers in relation to assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of such patients with ASD.
  • Promotes optimal interprofessional functioning of the services through role modeling.
  • Regularly attends team meetings of the services and other meetings such as of the Section of Community Psychiatry and the Department of Psychiatry.
  • Collaborates with other psychiatrists and staff in the Services and in the Section of Community Psychiatry and in other sections/divisions of the Department of Psychiatry, to ensure seamless care for patients.
  • Provides clinical care (assessment and treatment) to adult outpatients with suspected or confirmed ASD and to other adult outpatients with mental disorders.

Experience:


  • Established experience as a psychiatrist working in outpatient clinical academic environments with a demonstrated commitment to teaching in a clinical academic setting; part of this experience involves adult patients with such ASD.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in working with teams of professionals across disciplines.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with service users (patients and their families), other service providers (such as allied health care providers and social service providers), and other stakeholders.
  • Willingness to work flexibly in response to changing organizational requirements.

Eligibility:


  • Fellowship in psychiatry, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC), or equivalent as determined by the Department of Psychiatry.
  • Eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
