Reporting to the Vice-Dean Education, the Program Evaluation Specialist works closely with the Accreditation and Education Quality Improvement (AEQI) team and other faculty members within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) to develop program evaluation strategies and plans for various accredited health professions education programs offered by the Ingram School of Nursing (ISoN), the School of Physical and Occupational Therapy (SPOT) and the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders (SCSD).

The Program Evaluation Specialist looks for commonalities in program evaluation components across the several academic programs and, once identified, strives to standardize the measurement of those components and the sources of data.


This position is a contract position for a minimum of 3 year, with a possibility of renewal based on available funding and a performance review each year.

The Program Evaluation Specialist is responsible for providing expertise and guidance on the implementation of program evaluation strategies and plans on an ongoing basis.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Leads the development of program evaluation strategies and plans for priority program evaluation activities and oversees the implementation of work plans;
  • Provides consultation to the Schools' of Health Profession Leadership, Program Directors and other key faculty stakeholders, by sharing specialized program evaluation knowledge and expertise to develop evaluation policies, performance measurement strategies (including logic models, indicators, data sources), and program evaluation designs and methods that address their unique program needs;
  • Develops and maintains extensive knowledge of accreditation standards related to educational standards for the Health Professions;
  • Develops (and/or assist faculty members to develop and administer) data collection instruments and procedures to measure implementation and outcomes of programs;
  • Conducts literature reviews to ensure evaluations incorporate established theories and external evidence in areas of service;
  • Interprets results and writes evidencebased evaluation reports and recommendations, memos, and summaries for use by policy and decision makers;
  • Participates in meetings, working groups, and committees (e.g., develop and deliver presentation, chair);
  • Collaborates with and maintains relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Prepares and delivers presentations to disseminate findings and best practices in a variety of contexts;
  • Collaborates with the Education Lead, Education Enhancement Officer and other AEQI team members in various Health Education related Quality improvement and Program evaluation projects;
  • Contributes to the AEQI Office strategic direction and priorities, work policies, systems, methods, procedures, standards, techniques, and planning and reporting documents;
  • Contributes to the capacity building objectives of the AEQI Office by participating in the development and delivery of faculty development initiatives related to program evaluation;
  • Participates in special projects of the AEQI Office as required by the Director

Qualifications:


  • PhD in Program Evaluation, Education, Health (Nursing, PT, OT, etc.), Psychology, Sociology, or a related field;
  • A minimum of four years of professional experience In program evaluation and applied social or health science research, or the equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Strong knowledge of research/evaluation methodology, statistics, and program evaluation; strong experience in qualitative and quantitative research/evaluation methods and analyses; effective Interview and focus group facilitation skills;
  • Effective presentation skills and ability to communicate information in a way that Is understandable to nonevaluation trained audiences;
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders and clients (clients in this context are primarily Program Directors and faculty members), fostering clients' sense of ownership over the outcomes of the evaluation process and a commitment to implementing recommendations;
  • Ability to work as part of team and to foster and support the creation of a team environment;
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate high level of initiative.
  • Computer experience and competency with Microsoft Excel, SPSS, and other database and data analysis software packages;
  • Familiarity with health professions education, learner and faculty assessment, and health services an asset;
  • Canadian Evaluation Society Credentialed Evaluator (CE) designation or ability to work toward meeting CE qualification requirements is a strong asset;
