Position Summary


Under the direction of the Kitchen Supervisor with directional support from Second Cooks, the Kitchen Assistant is responsible for basic food preparation techniques used to produce high quality, large volume meals.

In addition, the Kitchen Assistant is responsible for washing and storing of all kitchen and dining room dishes, and maintaining clean and sanitary work areas, equipment and tools in a professional manner.

This is a full-time, permanent position. Shifts are Sunday to Thursday from 10:30 to 6:30pm. This position is compensated at $21.91 per hour.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting Kitchen Supervisor and/or Second Cook with dishing up meal plates
  • Assisting the dining room staff with serving meals when required
  • Soaking, rinsing, and washing all dishes, cutlery, pots and pans etc.
  • Following daily cleaning schedule outlined by the Kitchen Supervisor
  • Preparing food including, but not limited to: washing, peeling, cutting vegetables and fruit, preparing salads, preparing breads, crackers, condiments etc., slice and grate cheese, prepare and/or assist with preparation of entrees, soups and side dishes
  • Receiving, itemize and store fresh and dry goods as they are received and reports to the Kitchen Supervisor and/or Second Cook with any supplies that are poor or unacceptable quality
  • Ensuring compliance with all Food Safe guidelines in the handling and storage of all food supplies
  • Administering First Aid to Residents in the case of an incident during meal time
  • Accurate and timely completion of all documentation assigned or required in the course of duties including daily logs as well as unusual or serious incident reports
  • Maintaining resident and staff confidentiality
  • Other related duties as may be required

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Experience in and with Indigenous communities would be an asset
  • Ability to take direction and follow procedures
  • Knowledge of an Assisted Living environment would be an asset
  • Ability to work independently, yet contribute and cooperate in a team environment
  • An ability to lift up to 30lbs regularly and 50lbs occasionally

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Courses or training in customer service and/or food service
  • 12 years of experience working in in high volume facilities, not including convenience or fast food, or an equivalent combination of education, training & experience
  • Courses required and paid for by M'akola:
  • Occupational Level 1 First Aid Level 1 Certificate
  • Food Safe Level 1 Certificate
  • WHMIS Certificate
  • Criminal Record Check
