The Cowichan Bay Maritime Centre is looking to hire two Maritime Centre Interpretive Guides.Duties will include:
- Enhancing the visitor experience by meeting and greeting visitors, handing queries, directing visitor traffic flow, and leading guided tours,
- Planning and implementing our most popular community event, the 39th Annual Wooden Boat Festival,
- Coordinating and leading educational maritimethemed summer programs for children and youth,
- Opportunities for improving and upgrading existing museum displays and signage,
- Advertising upcoming activities and events and filling registrants,
- Gathering feedback and conducting post event, post program and visitor satisfaction surveys,
- Opening and closing the facility and ensuring site safety procedures are followed.
Skills Preferred:
- good verbal and written communication skills
- Familiarity with the marine environment
- Detail oriented
- Experience working with the general public
- Experience working with children and youth
- Competency with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Previous museum or gallery experience an asset
- Valid Driver's License and access to a vehicle an asset
- Fluency in a second language an asset
- Evening and weekend work will be required
- Must be aware of, and sensitive to, First Nations culture and heritage
To be eligible, you must be:
- Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada
- between 15 and 30 years of age
- enrolled as a student in the current school year and intend to return to full-time studies in the fall.
Job Types:
Full-time, Fixed term contract, Internship / Co-op
Salary:
$18.50 per hour
Expected hours: 37.5 per week
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Day shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
