Description

The Communications and Resource Development Coordinator is responsible for the overall efforts of communications and fundraising initiatives across the organization.


The incumbent's role will be key in ensuring effective communication both internally and externally with stakeholders, donors, and the broader community.

It will be instrumental in shaping the organization's public image, enhancing stakeholder engagement, and advancing its mission through communications and fund development strategies.

They will support the financial sustainability and growth of the organization, collaborating with the fundraising committee to develop comprehensive strategies that align with the organization's goals and financial needs.


Strong interpersonal skills, creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask and prioritize are essential for success in this role.


Communications Activities:


  • Assists the Executive Director and the Management team in public relations matters and inquires, such as arranging interviews, providing support with key messages.
  • Participates in the development of the communications plan to improve the centre's visibility in the community.
  • Ensures the communications plan complies with Carlington's mission, vision and values along with the requirements of Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), the French Language Services Plan and health equity principles.
  • Engages in external events in a public relations and promotional role to promote awareness of Carlington CHC's programs and services.
  • Maintains the Carlington website and social media platforms with relevant information and its programs and services (in English and French).
  • Implements the communication plan and ensures ongoing compliance with relevant legislation and centre policies.
  • Provides support to the Senior Leadership team on communications issues and strategies.
  • Provides written support such as writing, proofreading and editing for a variety of media content, including the annual report, newsletters, direct mail campaigns, funding proposals, news releases and other writing projects as required.
  • Creates and implements documents including program guides, templates for posters and presentations for distribution.

Resource Development Activities:


  • In Collaboration with the fundraising Committee, plan, organize, and execute fundraising events, including galas, auctions, and community outreach programs.
  • Collaborate with the fundraising committee to create fundraising materials and promotional content.
  • Lead and implement fundraising strategies to meet revenue targets and organizational goals.
  • Coordinate online fundraising campaigns and crowdfunding initiatives.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with donors, sponsors, and other stakeholders to solicit donations and support.
  • Write compelling grant proposals, sponsorship packages, fundraising appeals and assist with some grant writing.
  • Research and identify potential funding sources, grants, and sponsorship opportunities.
  • Maintain donor databases and ensure accurate recordkeeping of contributions and donor communications.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of fundraising strategies and initiatives and make recommendations for improvement.

Support with Volunteer Activities:


  • Provide support and guidance to volunteers and fundraising committee members.
  • Supports Human Resources with the process and maintenance of:
  • The volunteer program and volunteer database.
  • The onboarding process for recruited volunteers, including board and committee members.
  • Provide orientation package for volunteers and staff working with volunteers.
