Nature & Scope:
- The Fitness Supervisor's primary responsibility is to oversee the management and delivery of fitness programs at the Langara YMCA. As part of the YMCA Leadership Team, the Fitness Supervisor is responsible for delivering high quality group fitness programs with a focus on Group Fitness and Personal Training at the membership branch and collaborating on association wide fitness initiatives under the leadership of the Association Lead, Fitness. In addition to ensuring service and program quality standards are being met and exceeded, active participation in volunteer recruitment and taking on a regular duty manager role in the facility is also a requirement. Flexibility to work mornings, evenings and weekend shifts will be necessary.
Major Responsibilities:
- Maintain and create a Group Fitness schedule, including instructing weekly group fitness classes on both a regular and substitute basis
- Maintain a diverse schedule of group classes and programs for members of all abilities, wellness levels, and interest areas
- Management and oversight of a return to group fitness post COVID 1
- Point of contact with group fitness volunteers, building and maintaining solid relationships focusing on communication to ensure smooth running of the branch schedule
- Ensures the delivery of high quality fitness programs and services that meet YMCA requirements and standards.
- Oversight of building and staff as Duty Manager 23 times per week
- Recruit and retain group fitness volunteers and provide continuous training, engagement and development
- Facilitate virtual training sessions over Microsoft Teams each month for new health, fitness and aquatics staff
- Direct oversight and leadership of implementing innovative fitness programming
- Support facility growth in personal training sales and revenue
- Develops core program offerings and new initiatives that encourage retention and membership growth.
- Ensures the safety of branch/program participants, staff, and property by following YMCA standards, policies, and procedures.
- Build meaningful relationships with members and colleagues and diffuse conflict situations with members and staff
- Dynamic leadership and oversight to frontline staff team
- Be competent with membership registration system to service members needs
Requirements:
- Proven knowledge in the areas of exercise science, nutrition, choreography, and fitness trends
- Minimum two years supervisory experience
- Minimum two years' experience in fitness/health and wellness environments
- Current YMCA Group Fitness Instructor Certification or equivalent
- Personal Training Certification an asset
- Experience instructing Group Fitness classes
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C & AED certificate
- Post-Secondary education or degree in a Physical Education or related field preferred
- Access to vehicle for regular travel within the Lower Mainland
- 3 professional references
