Research Technician - Ottawa, Canada - OHRI
Description
Responsibilities include:
- Sterile processing of umbilical cord blood, peripheral blood, and bone marrow samples from patients including those enrolled in clinical trials.
- Performing flow cytometry analysis of clinical samples.
- Manage inventory of primary patient samples as well as multiple cell lines.
- Perform defined molecular biology and biochemistry experiments in collaboration with lab members.
- Present research progress in lab meetings.
- Culture various cell lines and maintain lab stocks.
- Manage inventory of cell lines.
- Assist in administrative tasks.
- Maintain updated records electronically for all procedures and tasks.
- Assist other staff and trainees in research projects as needed.
Basic Requirements:
- BSc in biological sciences combined with experience in cell culture, cellbased and quality control assays
- 15 years of experience working in a research laboratory
- Possess excellent sterile technique and experience in mammalian cell culture.
- Experience in basic molecular biology techniques: DNA and RNA extractions, molecular cloning, PCR, gel electrophoresis.
- Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage a large number of samples.
- Excellent record keeping and ability to use an electronic database.
- Time management skills and flexibility with respect to multitasking.
- Ability to work both independently and in teams.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work part time on weekends on a regular or semiregular basis.
Preferred Qualification:
- MSc in biological or biomedical sciences.
- Experience in pluripotent stem cell culture.
- Experience in CRISPR gene editing.
- Experience in digital droplet PCR and/or qPCR.
- Experience in quality control.
Contract Details:
This is a 2-year full-time contract with possibility of renewal
Salary:
Min:$21.278/hr - Max:$30.747/hr
