Program Facilitator, Academic Support

(Contract Part-time 20 hours per week)

(Starting ASAP - March 31, 2024)

(Bargaining Unit Position)


The Program Facilitator, Academic Support is responsible for supporting collaboration between volunteer tutors and students and planning academic focused activities for Pathways students.

The Program Facilitator, Academic Support works closely with the Student Development Workers to develop and deliver the tutoring components of the Pathways to Education Program.

This includes facilitating scheduled evening tutoring sessions with youth, designing individual and group activities, and acting as a tutor when required.

Program Facilitators research, create, and promote resources to support the development of academic goals and skills.


Highlights of Your Role

  • Facilitates programming sites, supports volunteer tutors and provides any additional support to students if volunteer tutors are not available.
  • Investigates opportunities that may benefit youth and plans programs that are catered to these goals (ex. Study Skills Workshops, OSSLT prep, etc.).
  • Gathers and creates curriculum based high school resources and materials for onsite use.
  • Maintains regular communication with Pathways to Education staff and provides updates regarding students' successes and challenges in the program.
  • Ensures safety procedures are followed at tutoring and that documentation is submitted to the Manager, Student Advocacy and Academic Support regarding safety as required.
  • Maintains accurate and up to date student documentation and reporting as required by the organization and Pathways to Education Canada.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Highlights of What You Bring

Education:


  • Undergraduate Degree in arts, sciences, social sciences, math, accounting or commerce or a combination of education and directly related experience.
  • Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) Certification is a strong asset.

Experience:


  • One (1) year experience working with high school aged youth in a variety of different contexts, including after school community programming, tutoring, and workshop facilitating.
  • Experience supporting students with exceptional needs, literacy or numeracy support is an asset.
  • Experience facilitating youth groups from culturally diverse, low income communities.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario School Curriculum in a combination of Math, English, Social Studies, French &/or Science disciplines at the high school level.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of youth engagement practices in an afterschool, community based program is an asset.
  • Knowledge of current community issues facing the Scarborough Village community is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Ontario Education Ministry policies, procedures and resources is an asset.
  • Operating using an Anti-Black Racism Lens is an asset.

Skills:


  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficient in computer usage skills and social media.
  • Ability to speak a second language spoken within the community (Tamil, Urdu, Farsi, Creole, French, and Spanish) is an asset.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be able to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Police Check.
  • Proof of full vaccination for COVID19
