Full-Time Seasonal (Term until August 25, 2023)

  • Eligibility will be confirmed to the right to funding of Aboriginal status, nonstatus and Inuit students.
  • Individuals must reside within the ASETS catchment area
ASETS employment counsellor to confirm program eligibility. Please provide contract # SS to the
counsellor.

  • Must be a minimum of 15 years of age at time of hiring.
  • Secondary and postsecondary students must be registered full time students during previous academic year
- and intend to return to school full time in the following academic year.
  • Must have a valid Social Insurance Number.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The purpose of this position is responsible for the maintenance of the Sports Fields and lawns around Chief
Louis Centre, Powwow Grounds, and Gas Bar and for the care and maintenance of all landscaping tools and
equipment within the TteS Public Works Department.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


1. Completes lawn maintenance of the Sports Fields and lawns around Chief Louis Centre, Powwow

Grounds, and TteS. Includes mowing grass, trimming/pruning trees and hedges, and planting as required.

  • Operation of a variety of light and mediumduty vehicles and equipment associated with the various
activities within the Public Works Department.

  • Backfill Public Works operations such as:
  • Waste management duties, e.g., recycling and curbside pick-up.
  • Cutting grass on roadsides
- o Repairing and installing street signs, etc.
  • Perform pretrip inspection of vehicle systems and equipment such as tires, lights, brakes and fluid

- levels.
  • Reports on any tools and equipment that are not in good repair.
  • Performs inspection of equipment such as tires, brakes and fluid levels.
  • Performs safe operating and maintenance practices and procedures related to the equipment within
- the TteS Public Works Department.
  • Performs mechanical servicing and light repair of equipment.
  • Cut grass, rake, fertilize and water lawns, weed flower beds, prune shrubs and trees.
  • Performs minor repairs to irrigation lines and sprinkler heads.
  • Operate power mowers, tractors, power trimmers, sod cutters and other landscape maintenance

- equipment.
  • Performs responsibilities in varying weather conditions.
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the TteS policies, standards, and

- procedures.
  • Maintains confidentiality on all matters of the TteS.

2. Other related duties as necessary. (5%)
**Professional Certification, Education and Experience: - Must have grade 10 education or equivalent and previous landscaping experience is preferred.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid current class 5 driver's license.
  • Must possess, provide, and maintain a current clean driver's abstract.
  • WCB Work Safe Training is preferred.
  • A valid Standard First Aid ticket is preferred.
  • WHMIS Training / Certificate is preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Skill in operating a variety of equipment and performing maintenance tasks within acceptable limits of

- accuracy and expertise.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the safe operating practices and procedures related to the equipment used
- in the TteS Public Works Department.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to take initiative and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to work alone independently / unsupervised.
  • Ability to take direction.
  • Physically able to perform duties.

HOURS OF WORK:
Normal Day shifts - 7 hours. Non-normal shifts may be required.

PAY GRADE:
$17.85-$19.72/hour depending on education & experience.
