REPORTS TO:
Solid Waste/Wastewater Technologist


Responsibilities/Duties:


  • Customer Service at the

Paris Transfer Station:
Scalehouse operations, data review and entry, and municipal infrastructure inspections.

  • Water tasks: Facility maintenance, assist with water operational activities, and provide assistance to the water quality group.

Equipment and software student employee may be operating:

  • Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, & Power Point)
  • County fleet vehicle (pickup truck) and traffic control devices
  • Weigh scales at waste management sites
  • Common hand tools (sledge hammer, pick, digital camera, gas monitor) to access and document condition of sanitary sewer infrastructure.
  • Smartphone will be provided for the term.
  • GIS Software
  • GPS Survey equipment
  • Environmental monitoring equipment and related supplies and PPE

Knowledge/Skills Required:


  • Ability to undertake extended periods at a computer.
  • Ability to undertake outdoor, physical work in all weather conditions. Need to have appropriate clothing (including CSA approved steel toe work boots) to work outdoors in all weather conditions, for extended periods (hot & cold weather).
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Good communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to maintain clear, accurate records of work undertaken.
  • Understanding of municipal infrastructure systems will be considered an asset.
  • Experience with environmental sample collection will be considered an asset.
  • Customer Service and cash handling experience will be considered an asset.
  • Valid Ontario Drivers License and provision and use of a reliable vehicle is required.
  • Acceptable Driver's Abstract is required.
  • Acceptable Police Records Check is required.

Education:
Preferably enrolled in a post-secondary Civil Engineering, or Environmental Technology program.


Duration:

April 29th to August 30th, 2024 (Tuesday to Saturday) (4 month co-op term) or end date of December 31st, 2024.


Solid Waste/Wastewater:
Tuesday & Thursday 8:30 to 4:30 and Saturday 8:00 to 4:00 Water: Wednesday & Friday 7:00 to 3:30

Hours per week: 35


You must be enrolled in a post-secondary Institution and returning to school in the fall in order to qualify for this position/ with the exception of completing a final co-op term.
