Market Coordinator.

  • This is an exciting opportunity to work in an environment where you will contribute to OPG's planning decisions for the company's generation fleet. Working hand in hand with OPG work groups across the province, from Thunder Bay to Niagara Falls, work with counterparts at the IESO, Ontario's electrical system coordinator and integrator, and with Hydro One asset management teams, Ontario's transmission system owner.
    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Provide commercial support to Hydroelectric Plant Group staff to:
  • Develop an integrated hydro operational strategy and utilization plan to optimize OPG's financial return from these assets by incorporating the Commercial Operations' perspective.
  • Initiation of strategic analysis and operational plans and programs for the optimal use of the hydroelectric resources to support discussions with the regulator, regarding environmental issues, equipment protection and safety related matters.
  • Provide advice and expertise in the coordination of scheduling of outages with respect to information on the quantity and timing of future river flows and water levels as provided by Hydroelectric Plant Group staff.
  • Develop monthly hydroelectric energy forecasts by working with Hydroelectric Plant Group staff, for up to 5 years in the future, including reflection of the Commercial Operation's perspective for incorporation into the Integrated Revenue Planning corporate forecast.
  • Review Hydro One outage program on an ongoing basis and IESO outage related Operating Security limits to identify their impacts on OPG operations and opportunities for coordination with OPG outages.
  • Negotiate revisions to Hydro One outage program. Support OPG interface with Hydro One.
  • Provide an optimized and integrated OPG generator outage plan taking into account transmission system effects.
  • Support the efficient and economic delivery of gas commodity (i.e. gas nominations), including optimizing gas commodity inventory levels as part of a team.
  • As required, perform logistics support for other fuel commodities.
  • Produce integrated, hourly generation schedules for the next day using Day-Ahead business processes.
  • Provide analysis in the development of day ahead strategies and post analysis of plans implemented for the day ahead.
  • Produce an integrated shortterm asset and resource optimization plan for use in hedging, outage management, hydroelectric optimization, etc.
  • Provide marketbased expertise and analysis in support of adhoc requests from the Hydroelectric Plant Groups which may have a commercial impact for OPG.
  • Provide support for, or perform, afterthefact analysis of OPG's activities in the IESO and surrounding wholesale energy day ahead and real time markets.
  • Pursue the continued development of systems, processes, tools, and capabilities to ensure efficient and effective performance and perform testing of new markets/tools, as required.
  • Generate and disseminate reports including dailyconsolidated profit and loss, risk, etc., providing background and context as required.
  • Contribute to the implementation and communication of routing and adhoc reports to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with counterparts, external agencies, internal/external stakeholders, and suppliers to gain intelligence and support the Corporations' interests. Carry out liaison with all internal/external customers as appropriate in support of large end use customers.
  • Contribute to and maintain department work manuals, policies, and detailed procedures.
  • Communicate as per defined protocols with station/plant groups, IESO, ISO's and Hydro One.

EDUCATION

  • 4year University degree in Electrical Engineering or relatable study

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a flexible hybrid office environment.
  • Minimum of 6 years of industry experience
