ARHI 201:
Introduction to Art History I
- Two sections Available

Section 1

Course description:

An examination of art and architecture before 1400 in relation to significant historical and cultural events.


Qualifications/Requirements:

  • A PhD in Art History or related field is required.
  • Applicants should have a record of teaching within the field of art history, and ideally experience teaching large, introductory surveys of global art history.
  • Demonstrated evidence of successful teaching experience at the university level.
  • Outstanding professional achievement or substantial training in the field of art history.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, and abilities.

ARHI 211 Writing and Art History

Course dates:
September - December 6, 2023
Wednesday and Friday 11:00 - 12:15

Course description:

An introduction to the techniques and strategies of writing about art and cultural objects within the discipline of art history.

Students develop and strengthen their writing skills in relation to addressing, evaluating, and assessing art.


Qualifications/Requirements:

  • A PhD in Art History or related field is required.
  • Applicants should have a record of teaching within the field of art history.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching courses that focus on writing and experience grading written work.
  • Demonstrated evidence of successful teaching experience at the university level.
  • Outstanding professional achievement or substantial training in the field of art history.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, and abilities

ARHI 331 Modern Art and Architecture

Course dates:
September - December 6, 2023
Monday and Wednesday 09:30 - 10:45

Course description:

A critical exploration of the development of and discussions about different art movements in relation to Modern Art and the avant-garde, addressing the historical circumstances that enabled the creation of selected art movements, which may include Impressionism, the Arts and Crafts Movement, Cubism, Surrealism, Pop Art, Fluxus, and Situationist.

  • Applicants should have a record of teaching within the field of art history, and ideally experience teaching large surveys of global art history.

ARHI 333 Contemporary Art and Architecture

Course description:

An introduction to the socio-political approaches and critical theories that have informed art-making in the contemporary period. Examines artworks and their production, circulation, and reception through a variety of positions including gender, race, sexuality, and post-coloniality.

Historical and contemporary studies of Indigenous cultural production within the geographic context of the Americas.


Qualifications/Requirements:

  • A PhD in Art and Design is required.
  • Demonstrated evidence of successful teaching experience at the university level, including a record of teaching Indigenous Contemporary Art at the postsecondary level.
  • Demonstrated evidence of successful online, asynchronous teaching.
  • Outstanding professional achievement or substantial training in the field of art history and curation.
