Primary Purpose


The International Student Advising Team Lead oversees the International Student Advising (ISA) team who support all international students through advising services and programs.


In this role, the Team Lead is expected to provide expert advice to key stakeholders such as the business development teams to support the advancement of the strategic and operational decision-making of the university.

The ISA Team Lead will also work internally with the Manager, Student Advising and Support Services and collaborate with stakeholders such as the Student Life team, Outreach team, Alumni Engagement Office, Career Development Center, the Health & Wellbeing Office as well as the Accessibility & Diversity office, Registrar's Office, and Marketing & Communications department.


Specific Responsibilities

TEAM/PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT

  • Provide orientation, coaching/instruction, training, and development relating to the university's operations and administrative practices
  • Oversee work portfolios of ISA advisors, oversee team meetings, and maintain close working relationship with the Student Advising Specialist admin support
  • Coordinate and provide staff input into the development, evaluation, and revision of KPI and annual goals or service standards to maintain positive service reviews from students, faculty, external staff, and administrators who rely on ISA to provide advising and consultation.

PROBLEM-SOLVING/ANALYTICAL THINKING

  • Provide analysis on highstakes externally sensitive cases involving international students and prepare inperson or written consultation for the Student Affairs & Services division
  • Use knowledge of systems, policies, and procedures to exercise professional judgement to solve unusual, complex overlapping immigration, academic, health & safety and workrelated cases.
  • Design and implement student feedback on services provided; interpret results and determine implications; communicate relevant information and recommend improvements to advising services and practice for the ISA team.

COMMUNICATION

  • Support oncampus immigrationrelated communications in collaboration with the ISA team and act as spokesperson for the team in leadership meetings
  • Provide in person or written consultation upon request, to Senior Management Team related to international student considerations, such as duration of a program in relation to workpermits, predicted demand for a program, student academic readiness, and where workintegratedlearning is involved
  • Ensure public information distributed by the ISA team related to immigration, academic and work is clear and up to date with regulations and legal requirements.
  • Support and act as an ISA

  • Active RCIC or RISIA membership in good standing
  • Proven ability to ensure inclusivity and to develop and cultivate relationships with students, faculty, staff, and members of the external community
  • Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail, especially when working under pressure to meet deadlines

Education and Experience:


  • Successful completion of a bachelor's degree in a related discipline from a recognized postsecondary institution and a minimum of 3 years related work experience in a related field. Master's degree is preferred.
  • Certification as a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) or Regulated International Student Immigration Advisor (RISIA); and be in good standing with the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC).
  • Experience in student life programming in a postsecondary educational environment
  • Experience working in immigration regulation, advisement, and/or compliance
  • Professional or paraprofessional experience in the field of International Education and/or Student Affairs

Salary:
$68,000.00-$78,000.00 per year
