ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a highly motivated, team-orientated individual to join our People & Culture team as a
Payroll and Benefits Specialist.

Reporting to the Payroll Manager, the primary objective of the role is to manage and produce full-cycle payroll, benefit administration, MPP administration and assist with day-to-day operations of the People & Culture department at Métis Nation BC


KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for accurate and timely payroll processing for 200+ employees on a biweekly cycle.
  • Ensure payroll reporting and remittances are in compliance with CRA, BC Pension Corporation, and WorkSafe BC, and in accordance with Employment Standards Act and MNBC policies.
  • Manage all aspects of employee benefits administration and pension plan enrollments.
  • Responsible for investigating and resolving payroll or benefits issues in a timely manner.
  • In consultation with the Finance Department, ensure payroll and benefit premium reconciliations are complete and accurate.
  • Manage and update a variety of payroll reports, preparing adhoc reports and completing salary and compensation surveys/reports as needed.
  • Assist with other People & Culture department functions such as recruitment activities, leave management, and new employee onboarding.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Canadian PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) designation, and
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in Canadian Payroll & Benefit
  • Combination of relevant experience, education, and training will be considered
  • Indepth knowledge of relevant legislation such as Employment Standards, Canada Revenue Agency, and WorkSafe BC requirements
  • Experience with Rise or any payroll software is an asset.
  • Knowledge and/or awareness of Métis people in B.C.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to lead, problemsolve and utilize teambuilding skills
  • Proven ability to build relationships and maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Demonstrated ability to perform administrative tasks with high attention to detail
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work with mínimal supervision
  • Proven ability to utilize, adapt and embrace new technologies, including Word, Excel, and another database/software required by the role

OTHER COMMENTS

  • Other duties may be assigned as needed to help ensure the efficient operation of MNBC.
  • There will be a need to attend meetings and events which may require work and travel outside of normal business hours.
  • Ability to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver's license and access to a reliable personal vehicle for work purposes.
