Vistamere by Fieldgate Retirement Living is looking for a Full Time Cook to join our Culinary Team


JOB SUMMERY:
The cook prepares the food for each meal as outlined on the menu, utilizing standardized recipes.

This individual is responsible for ensuring that the food is prepared in a proper manner and presented to the resident in a palatable manner and presented to the resident in a palatable and appetizing appearance.


FUNCTIONS:

  • Preparation of high quality, tasty meals according to the posted menu and following the standardized recipes with attention to portion control.
  • Oversees and assists with the service of food, ensuring resident food preference are respected.
  • Ensures that all dietary functions are performed in a clean, sanitary manner according to regulations.
  • Assist in control of food costs and wastage.
  • Recommends and institutes change in technique or procedure for more efficient operation.
  • Relieved director of food services on days off and performs necessary related duties as determined appropriate.
  • Assist in the orientation and training of new dietary personnel.
  • Inspect food supplies and determine what quantities of food should be reordered and communicate this to supervisor.
  • Attend in service to better understand the dietary needs of the residents.
  • Attends staff meetings as required to be aware of changes in the facility.
  • Is aware and endeavors to respect and promote the resident rights and responsibilities.
  • Participates in the quality improvement program.
  • Performs other duties and functions as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Must be able to concentrate in an environment that provides constant interruption and change.

  • Lifting with assistance, maximum 160 lbs usual) as an essential job function.
  • Pushing/pulling, maximum 100 lbs lbs. usual) as an essential job function.
  • Stretching /reaching on a regular frequency throughout the shift, as an essential job function.

  • Standing for lengths of time, up to 3 hours maximum (12 hours usual) as an essential job function.
  • Crouching / kneeling for short periods of time as a nonessential job function.

Responsibilities to health and safety:

  • Is a competent person as defined by the occupational health and safety Act.
  • Monitors adherence to safety policies and procedures of subordinates and promotes safe work practices for self and others.
  • Is alert to and promptly reports all actual or potentially hazardous situations.
  • Ensure that all reported injuries and illnesses are treated promptly and documented according to policy, and that transportation for treatment of critical injury is arranged.
  • Participates in fire safety demonstrations and fire drills, and knows the facility fire and disaster plan.
