Here's the opportunity:

The Specialist, Loan Portfolio is responsible for Futurpreneur's repayments and portfolio management practices.

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the incumbent will successfully implement the loan portfolio's business plans to ensure results are achieved and work along two Coordinators, Loan Portfolio.

The Specialist, Loan Portfolio will be responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the loan portfolio.

This is a 14-month temporary contract, full-time position that located in Toronto. The incumbent will be working on our hybrid work model (minimum 2 days in the office).


What you will do:


Loan Portfolio Management (70%)

  • Support with the planning, leadership and coordination of loan portfolio management
  • Review disbursements and ensure accuracy of disbursement amounts and banking information before funds are EFTed to young entrepreneurs (YEs)
  • Review all loan payments for active accounts in the portfolio
  • Coordinate and prepare writeoff reports reporting on settlements, consumer proposals, bankruptcies, and bad debts
  • Coordinate and prepare delinquency reports reporting on delinquent accounts
  • Make notes on accounts over 90 days past due for the Client Support team to follow up on or write off
  • Oversee bad debts reporting to third party debt collection company (D&A) and maintain relationships to follow up on collection efforts
  • Review and upload monthly Equifax report and send entrepreneur account updates as needed
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the Loans system, as needed. Manage improvements to the Loans system which will help to improve reporting and loan processing
  • Continuously improve the Client Loan Portal platform by exploring features to improve the client experience
  • Develop and monitor loan performance metrics. Monitor and report on loan portfolio performance by looking at trends relating to restructures, writeoffs and delinquencies
  • Monitor the launch of any new loan product and report on any trends both within the entire portfolio, as well as separately
  • Working with the Director of Finance, make recommendations for improvement efficiencies within the Loans team by discussing ways to streamline processes between Compliance, Loans and Client Support

Work with Finance (30%)

  • Support Director of Finance and Chief Finance Officer with loans related financial reporting and coordinating activities for monthend, yearend and external audit
  • Support the Finance team with monthly and quarterly BDC reporting, including loan loss ratio
  • Prepare loans reporting for BDC colending disbursements

What you bring:


  • Relevant experience may include education with a focus in Finance or equivalent handson career experience
  • Four (4+) years previous work experience in a related field and/or position
  • Strong project coordination skills required
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Bilingualism in French & English (spoken & written) considered an asset
  • Ability to analyse data
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure in a dynamic environment
  • Proven success working pro actively both independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated problem solving and decisionmaking skills
  • Knowledge of small business sector in Canada; experience working with entrepreneurs and volunteers preferred
