    The Université de Sherbrooke is seeking candidates for the position of Dean of the Faculty of Science.

    The Faculty of Science strives to maintain a level of excellence that places it among the best scientific faculties in the world, while offering an educational environment on a human scale. Recognized for the high caliber of its teaching, it offers 57 relevant, high-quality programs of study as well as cutting-edge teaching and research laboratories. The Faculty of Science comprises the departments of Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics.

    The Faculty of Science's main areas of research are molecular and cellular biology, environmental analytical chemistry, materials chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, physical and theoretical chemistry, terrestrial ecology, quantum information and materials, computer science, mathematics, microbiology and biotechnology.

    The research conducted in the Faculty's laboratories underpins all the major technological inventions of the 21st century. It provides answers to the scientific questions necessary for the advancement and well-being of our society and our environment.

    The University Centre for Environmental and Sustainable Development Studies is attached to the Faculty of Science and provides multidisciplinary training involving seven faculties.

    Nomination

    A nomination committee has been set up to lead the recruitment process for the Dean of the Faculty of Science.

    Chaired by the University President, the committee includes two members of the Faculty's teaching staff (Prof. Virginie Charrette and Prof. Pierre D. Harvey), a student (Mr. Marc-Olivier Gosselin) and an external member (Prof. Isabelle Marcotte, Université du Québec à Montréal).

    The Dean's term of office is four years and may be renewed once consecutively. The Dean is due to take office on June 1, 2024.

    The candidate must have a high-level academic record, recognized administrative experience and an excellent knowledge of the faculty and university environments.

    The duties of the Dean are set out in detail in the Statuts de l'Université de Sherbrooke (article 90, p. 55—in French only).
