SUMMARY OF THE ROLE

The Clinical Scholar Program (CSP) is a program that provides experienced nurses with leadership and mentorship opportunities in a Clinical Scholar role while working in a supernumerary position.

As a member of the Professional Practice Team, the Clinical Scholars will mentor newly graduated nurses, internationally educated nurses (IENs) and nurses seeking to upskill and can support and supervise the new nurses' transition into the workforce.

Clinical Scholars will work in collaboration with other teams as required supporting the strategic vision and direction of GBGH.


WHAT YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

As a Clinical Scholar you would be responsible for providing mentorship to the program beneficiaries and to support their nursing practice and integration into the clinical area in accordance with organizational and professional standards, and in collaboration with clinical teams.


Job Requirements:

MUST HAVES

  • Registered Nurse (RN) or a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) in the General Class in good standing; or nurses who have retired and still registered with the CNO
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
  • Experience in frontline care in a hospital clinical setting
  • Previous experience teaching, working with clinical learners, IENs, and/or precepting required
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, be selfdirected and manage competing priorities
  • Demonstrated leadership, change management, and problemsolving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with inter professional teams
  • Ability to evaluate clinical learners and IENs, as well as orient to hospital policies, rules, and regulations
  • Excellent clinical skills and competencies
  • Demonstrated outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate Patient and staff safety principles and practices
  • Ability to work all shifts as necessary
  • Demonstrated commitment to our core values

IT'S AN ADDED PLUS IF YOU HAVE

  • As a partially designated French speaking organization, French verbal and written communication skills are considered an asset in this position

GBGH is a 113-bed hospital located in Midland, ON and serving a catchment area that includes the communities of Midland, Penetanguishene, Township of Tiny, Township of Tay, Christian Island, Georgian Bay Township and Springwater Township.

It serves a population base of 55,000 swelling to more than 150,000 for six months of the year with seasonal residents.


With a budget of approximately $80M, 800 employees, more than 100 active Credentialed Staff and approximately 70 regional affiliate and consulting physicians.

Georgian Bay General Hospital offers a diverse array of services that includes acute care, rehabilitation and complex continuing care and is currently in the early planning phases for addition of 36 inpatient mental health beds and new hospital.
