JOB OBJECTIVES (Purpose of the position):

Assist in developing and executing in the M-D Canada Facilities (currently 2 locations: Mississauga and Milton)
Roughly 130 Employees

Most of your time will be spent in Mississauga


Human Resource policies including Employee Relations, Recruiting, On-boarding, HRIS Administration, Performance Management, Compensation, employee benefits and Health and Safety Compliance.

This position is also responsible for understanding the HR regulations specific to Canada and insure that all policies implemented comply with Canadian laws.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (Functions essential to attaining job objectives):

  • Provides a high level of service to all internal and external customers communicating and following up effectively and proactively.
  • Administers various human resources plans and procedures for all company personnel; assists in development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures; prepares and maintains employee handbook and policies and procedures manual.
  • Work closely with our U.S corporate HR in developing and implementing department goals, objectives, and systems in Canada.
  • Develops and Administers compensation program; monitors performance evaluation program and revises as necessary.
  • Performs benefits administration to include claims resolution, change reporting, approving invoices for payment, and communicating benefit information to employees.
  • Conducts recruitment effort for all exempt and nonexempt personnel, students, and temporary employees; conducts new-employee orientations; monitors career pathing program, writes and places advertisements.
  • Helps develop and implement a consistent system for annual employee reviews for the Canadian employees including providing guidance and support to individuals not experienced in these endeavors.
  • Handles employee relations counseling, outplacement counseling, and exit interviewing.
  • Participates in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings and seminars as required. Maintains company organization charts and employee directory.
  • Assists in evaluation of reports, decisions, and results of department in relation to established goals. Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed.
  • Maintains Human Resource Information System records and compiles reports from database.
  • Maintains compliance with federal and provincial regulations concerning employment.
  • Implement and administer employee policies and promote positive employee relations. Manage employee engagement initiatives such as company event planning and creating initiatives for employee retention and increased morale.
  • Continually assess training needs; develop and coordinate training programs in conjunction with Managers; track and report training initiatives.
  • Assist is finding and negotiating new and improved benefit plans/programs for the employees.
  • Be well-versed laws and regulations regarding legal rules of employment in the provinces where we have employees.
  • Participate on the Joint Health and Safety Committee, coordinating meetings, performing workplace inspections and hazard assessments.
  • Manage WSIB, disability claims and other programs to ensure timely return to work.
  • Provide payroll support and documentation for temporary/casual staff

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of Human Resource administration, effective oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills.


EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:


  • A bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field; OR
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of Human Resources experience
  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification is an asset
  • Experience with HR Information systems required; experience with Ultipro is an asset
  • Must have intermediate MSOffice (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

Pay:
$60,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
