IMPACT Associate - Corporate Initiatives (Temporary - up to 8 months)

Office of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Department


The Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion works with city departments, community partners and city committees to improve inclusion and accessibility in the city's policies, programs, and spaces.

Your main role is to help with the Office's research and evaluation, communications, community engagement and operations needs.

You will work on topics and projects related to immigration, gender diversity, accessibility, racial equity, poverty reduction, youth, and seniors.

You may support community mapping initiatives.

Ideally, you have excellent professional, educational and personal experiences with equity, inclusion, and accessibility. You are motivated to learn, passionate about the big picture and interested in step-by-step solutions. You are attentive to details and able to work on several priorities. You are keen on bringing people, data and stories into city's decision making.


POSITION FUNCTION


As an IMPACT Initiative Associate hired under the City of Victoria's Inclusive Municipal Program for Advancing Careers and Training, you will be given meaningful and challenging assignments while being introduced to a career in municipal government.

In this Associate position, you will assist with projects within a specific City department, contribute to the overall goals of the work unit, have job shadowing opportunities, and participate in educational experiences.


KEY DUTIES

  • Collaborate closely and actively participate in feedback sessions with a supervisor to contribute to the continuous improvement of the organization's operations.
  • Utilize tools and software platforms under the direct guidance of your supervisor.
  • Participate actively in the development and enhancement of projects aligned with the department's strategic goals.
  • Provide valuable field and/or office support to support the successful execution of assigned projects.
  • Collaborate with team members to facilitate shared learning and contribute to the evaluation and implementation of innovative solutions. Maintain detailed records of your work process, including any challenges encountered and problemsolving approaches employed.
  • Collaborate with colleagues from different departments or teams on crossfunctional projects to gain a broader perspective and develop a wellrounded skill set supporting your knowledge and success in a municipal career.
  • Attend and actively participate in educational activities that enhance your knowledge and skills, aligning with IMPACT program objectives and the department's needs.

INDEPENDENCE

  • Work is assigned by supervisor and reviewed upon completion.
  • Problems are referred to supervisor.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Effort:


  • Sit with arms unsupported while keyboarding. (occasional)

  • Meet multiple deadlines. (occasional)

Visual/Auditory Effort:


  • Focus on a variety of source data and computer for short periods. (occasional)

Work Environment:


  • Office, may attend work sites. (occasional)

Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification:

  • Have language proficiency in English (equivalent to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) Level 6).

Experience:


  • IMPACT Initiative Associates require at least 6 months of fundamental knowledge and practical experience related to tasks and responsibilities similar to those outlined in the position or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Work schedule:
Monday to Friday, (35 hour work week)


$30.85 per hour, Pay Grade 2 (under review)
