Facilities Summer Student

Seasonal Contract - Full-time

(May - August 2023)

Our facilities on campus are state-of-the-art and includes three gyms, fitness centre featuring high quality fitness and training equipment, pool, arena and much more.

As a Facilities Summer Student, you will have access to a team of talented and experienced individuals.

In this hands-on job you will work in an environment where you will gain transferable skills that will help you throughout your career.

WHAT IS AMAZING ABOUT THIS JOB:

Ability to work outdoors gaining experience with lawn maintenance and gardening to include horticultural activities
Opportunity to operate large power lawn mowers, edgers, hand tools, and large vehicles associated with ground maintenance and landscaping activities
Ability to operating pickup trucks for hauling purposes
Utilize your skills to do demo work including hauling building debris
Perform some minor maintenance and repair on equipment and tools
Utilize your skills to maintain manicured grounds (weed removal and deadheading)
Work with tools to install and remove signs, parking and traffic control barriers, and overhead banners
Gain hands on experience working with Facilities trades staff
Assist with special events and other general work orders
Follow all safety guidelines of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and promote a safe and healthy work environment including complying with all training provided. Your safety comes first

YOU WILL BE A GREAT FIT IF YOU:

Have earned your stripes and have a High School diploma
Can drive with a valid full G license or G2 at minimum that is in the clear
Want to learn and gain experience operating and maintaining small hand tools and light equipment
Value accountability and can work independently
Understand the importance of building relationships and are kind and courteous
Are willing to go the extra step and work some weekends
Can do some heavy lifting
Enjoy working mostly outdoors
Complete the necessary Health and Safety pretraining requirements and wear the appropriate safety boots and clothing
