Position summary:


The HRBP will provide expertise, guidance and support on all Human Resources activities including, but not limited to, recruitment and retention, compensation and benefit administration, labour and employee relations, and organizational development.

Working with the Director, Human Resources, the HRBP will take an active role on implementing new human resources initiatives and developing recruitment and retention strategies for future hospital development.


Responsibilities include:


  • Coordinate HR initiatives including Workforce Planning, Recruitment/Retention, Positive Labour Relations, Total
Compensation Programs, Benefit and Pension Administration, and Learning & Transition Management.

  • Keep abreast of current legislation and amendments or changes in the Employment Standards Act, Human
Rights Code, the Labour Relations Act, Pay Equity Act, etc.

  • Participate in the review and maintenance of Human Resources policies and procedures to engage in continuous quality improvement and develop best practices in keeping with Hospital initiatives, philosophy and principles.
  • Research HR programs, practices and activities to keep abreast of recent and innovative developments.
  • Prepare various Human Resources reports and ensure HRIS data accuracy and integrity is maintained.
  • Advice managers and staff on policies and procedures related to human resources best practices.
  • Maintain all job descriptions and assists managers in writing or revising as required.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with employees, management and key stakeholders (including union officials) to assist with meeting the needs in a proactive manner.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of Human Resource policies, procedures and programs.
  • Provide leadership, coaching and mentorship to employees, management and HR team members.
  • Assist in the delivery of sound guidance on matters involving workplace violence, workplace discrimination and harassment, returntowork/modified work by identifying and cooperating with Occupational Health.
  • Provide leadership and assistance throughout the recruitment and hireon process, ensuring the successful recruitment of employees with appropriate skills and competencies required for current and future Hospital needs.
  • Ensure that the recruitment/selection process complies with applicable laws, policies and collective agreements.
  • Provide an effective labour relations service covering all collective agreements and represents the Hospital in dayto
- day administration of the collective agreements and providing interpretation for both managers and staff.

  • Ensure salary administration is consistent with Collective Agreements and Hospital Policy and with regard to similar positions in the health care environment.
  • Ensure the proper administration of employee benefit plans by performing initial benefit information sessions and enrolment with employees, responding to benefit inquiries, and providing benefit plan updates as required.
  • University degree in Human Resources or a related discipline. CHRP designation is preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years progressive experience in a generalist role dealing with all aspects of Human Resource
Management issues and practices. Experience in healthcare is preferred.

  • Labour relations experience in a unionized environment is required.
  • Excellent knowledge of Windows Operating System, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of QHR is considered an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with highly sensitive and confidential material.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills to manage competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise tact and discretion, along with good judgment and problem solving
  • Professional and customer service oriented with an ability to work effectively in a team environment with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
