Reporting to the Manager, Research + Knowledge Translation, WHRI, the Communications Coordinator serves as a key member of the Knowledge Translation team responsible for providing communications services to WHRI.

The Communications Coordinator supports development and implementation of internal and external communications strategies for WHRI, ensuring that communications are high quality, consistent and facilitate change while maintaining relationships among internal and external stakeholders.

The Communications Coordinator provides support and/or guidance to colleagues and clients in writing, editing and producing consistent and quality communication materials and messages (including online and digital) for WHRI.


This unique role supports broad communication activities, working alongside the Manager of Research and Knowledge Translation, and the WHRI Communications Assistant.

This part-time role will have a keen focus on activities related to the WHRI website, podcast, social media programming, and event coordination.

Experience with WordPress, Elementor, Notion, Canva, and HTML coding, are an asset to this role.


What you'll do
***- Liaises with internal stakeholders to implement communication plans and activities, and with external stakeholders to respond to requests for information, collaborate on joint initiatives and events, and to coordinate communication activities. Maintains an editorial calendar detailing communications targets and creates and implements communications plans to meet them. Ensures WHRI communications activities are carried out in compliance with PHSA and UBC policy.

  • Contributes to the development and implementation of knowledge translation plans with various multidisciplinary research teams which may include researchers, health care providers, patient partners, or other knowledge users. Supports the Manager, Research + Knowledge Translation to facilitate the development, production, distribution, and evaluation of online, print, and video research communications and Knowledge Translation products.
  • Liaises with internal and external stakeholders to develop a broad understanding of important issues, challenges and strategic direction being undertaken and to foster open dialogue between key stakeholders.
  • In collaboration with the Knowledge Translation team, supports the development of plans and communicates messages to promote awareness of initiatives and contribute to a positive reputation for WHRI and PHSA. Recommends and implements internal and external communications plans and activities that could include internal and external enewsletters, digital communications, information sessions, and special events for internal and external audiences.
  • Conducts interviews with internal and external audiences. Writes, edits, and coordinates production of a variety of content and material for internal and external publications, digital and print communication channels. Coordinates and produces content for the WHRI website and the C&W/PHSA website and intranet where appropriate. Works collaboratively with members of the WHRI and PHSA Communications teams on communications plans and initiatives, and to respond to media and community inquiries and issues.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with media and professional bloggers. Supports proactive media relations activities to highlight WHRI achievements. Supports the Manager, Research + Knowledge Translation, WHRI in addressing media relations including responding to requests for information and interviews.
  • Plans, organizes, and produces content for the WHRI social media channels and podcast to promote members' research and catalyze Knowledge Translation goals from the Institute's Strategic Plan and accompanying frameworks. This includes chairing the social media committee, coordinating content development, preparing interview guides, scheduling interviews, recording and editing audio content,, and organizing dissemination activities.
  • Provides issues management support and communications advice to WHRI as assigned.
  • Provides reporting metrics and analytics to the WHRI Executive and PHSA, and prepares reports as required.
  • Plans, organizes and delivers communications for special events including workshops, public forums, symposia, and other events as required.
