Summary:
The Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) Specialist will provide specialized E3 support to the Director General Aerospace Engineering Program Management (DTAES) 6 Avionics Systems Engineering Sub-section covering Equipment Environmental E3 Qualifications, HIRF, Direct/ Indirect Lightning Protection, Electrostatic environments, Radiation Hazards (Hazards of electromagnetic radiation to personnel (HERP)/ Hazards of electromagnetic radiation to fuel (HERF)/ Hazards of electromagnetic radiation to ordnance (HERO)), Life Cycle E3 Hardness, Electrical Bonding/ Grounding/ Shielding, Emission Control (EMCON) and Electromagnetic (EM) spectrum supportability for all Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) aircraft fleets and associated equipment, Program Management Offices (PMOs), Weapon System Managers (WSMs), Canadian Special Operations Forces Command (CANSOFCOM) and Air Force Executive Technical and Operational staff at 1 Canadian Air Division.

Responsibilities:
Provide E3 methods and procedures that comply with military and civil aviation regulations and standards;
Provide E3 impact assessments of design change (Engineering Change Proposals, modifications, etc.) initiatives presented by WSMs, PMOs, Contractors and other organizations;
Prepare technical procurement documents;
Review and evaluate documentation and provide E3 technical analysis of engineering management plans, control plans, test plans and test reports;
Reviews System Safety Assessments, Functional Hazard Analyses, Failure Modes & Effects Analyses, Reliability Analyses, Test Reports, and other applicable systems documents to determine if compliance has been appropriately demonstrated; and to make technical airworthiness assessments/recommendations to DTAES management (including project leaders);
Provide investigation and analysis of aircraft E3 problems as well as recommendation of solutions;
Participate in program/ project proposals technical reviews;
Establishes (selects, approves, advises) E3 engineering requirements, standards and specifications for Department of National Defence/Canadian Armed Forces aircraft fleets, to be incorporated in the Technical Airworthiness Manual, Airworthiness Design Standards Manual, AF9000 procedures and/or internal directorate procedures;
Participate in site visits, inspections, and test witnessing;
Provide E3 advice in support of Airworthiness Certification and Compliance activities in support of the Technical Airworthiness Authority, PMOs and WSMs;
Participate in National and International working groups and committees related to aircraft E3 protection;
Provide Avionics engineering support services for the above activities as required, including:
Provide specialist and technical airworthiness advice on Avionics system installations and integration;
Make recommendations concerning Airworthiness standards and specifications for the procurement, modification, and integration of Avionics systems, subsystems, equipment, interfaces, and ancillaries;
Review data submitted for Airworthiness approval and make recommendations on compliance to Airworthiness design standards. This will entail the review of equipment design change/deviation, engineering drawings and details (plans, specifications, and related data) to assess their Airworthiness acceptability; and
Assist in the mentoring client/support organization government employees on E3 services.
Requirements:
Must have an undergraduate or master's degree in electrical or electronic engineering from a recognized post-secondary institution, OR, Must have an undergraduate or master's degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a science or engineering discipline and three (3) years' experience as specialist in E3, OR, Must have obtained the rank of Capt or above within the Aerospace Engineering Officer (AERE) or within the CAF and two (2) years' experience in E3.
Must have a minimum of five (5) years' experience within the past seven (7) years, performing E3 analysis and/or engineering support of aircraft avionics installations.
Electrical, electronic and electromagnetic theory with respect to the electromagnetic environmental effects on aircraft; applied mathematics, and of the basic elements of physics in the field of electromagnetic environmental effects on military aircraft.
The field of aircraft avionics, avionics installations and aircraft antennas and air operations in which the aircraft avionics systems are required to operate.
