OUR COMPANY
PWO Canada is a Tier 1 and Tier 2 supplier for auto manufacturers globally. We are one of five subsidiaries in the PWO AG Group, manufacturing lightweight metal components for the automotive industry.


PURPOSE OF POSITION
The purpose of the position of Maintenance Supervisor is to monitor all maintenance related activities. The position investigates unusual problems effecting production and determines solutions. The Maintenance Supervisor repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment in accordance with established safety procedures. The incumbent follows the goals and objectives of the Maintenance Manager.


NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION
All hourly maintenance department staff report to the Supervisor.

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for all maintenance activities assigned. He/she provides daily work orders. The position responds to any problems employees have and investigates problems as required. He/she is responsible for follow up on all problems occurring in the departments.

The position ensures work is performed in a safe manner, provides technical support on equipment and standards, and manages the maintenance department inventory.

He/she is also responsible for maintaining, improving and administering the PM plan for the production and facilities equipment.

Problems beyond the scope of the position are referred to the Maintenance Manager, including the purchase of capital equipment, termination and hiring of staff.

The position is responsible for his/her work and coordinating the work of others. The position makes recommendations for the hiring, firing, disciplining and remuneration of staff. The position is a member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee.


QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
Electrician or Millwright certificate and/or Engineering Degree or Engineering Technology Diploma is required.


Knowledge and Skills:

The position must have an excellent knowledge of maintenance, electrical and mechanical, progressive and automatic transfer equipment, and presses.

Strong knowledge or Preventative Maintenance (PM) systems and high voltage electrical are definite assets. Some knowledge of tooling, production scheduling, occupational health and safety and quality standards (TS16949 and ISO are required. Must be able to plan manpower requirements.


Communication Skills:
Strong written communication skills are required for normal business/technical communication.

Excellent oral skills are required in order to provide instruction and feedback to production and maintenance staff, and the Maintenance Manager.


Nature and Length of Experience:

At least five (5) years of experience in a similar automotive production environment with at least three (3) years experience in a supervisory role with reporting, planning, training and disciplinary skills.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Troubleshooting production problems that may have a mechanical or electrical problem as required or as requested by Maintenance personnel, Production Team Leads, Tool and Die personnel, Supervisors, and Managers.
  • Reviews, plans and implements preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Coordinates maintenance to minimize the effects on production.
  • Makes budget on maintenance expense and capitals, tracks cost of maintenance & energy.
  • Manage maintenance force such as attendance sheet, appraisal, training matrix etc.
  • Track and report machine downtime on the regular basis.
  • Maintains all technical records, such as PM, Sign Off, Repair History
- documents.

  • As the TS16949 and ISO14001 team member, he takes care of the maintenance section.
  • Installs, upgrades and relocates the production equipment & machinery to meet requirements
  • Gets quotes, order parts & other maintenance materials, and control spare part inventory
  • Manages implementing new tools(software, database etc.) if required with the facility coordinator.
  • Uses the electronic database of the department and is responsible for its maintenance.
  • Directs daily maintenance and repairs on production equipment and building facilities.
  • Reports work progress, problems and deviations to the Maintenance Manager on a continuous basis.
  • Communicates with all staff in all departments daily.
  • Devises innovative ways of improving existing machinery.
  • Sources replacement parts through suppliers as required.
  • Proper use of electronic data collection equipment.
  • Performs all duties within the 5S standards.
  • Following and performing the instructions as listed in the Work Area Reference Manual(s) applicable to the department.
  • Compliance to all company policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for working safely, complying with safety policies and procedures, and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) required in the designated areas as per company policy.
