Fresh Advancements is an importer and wholesaler of fresh produce at the Ontario Food Terminal. Our product line includes conventional and organic produce, including, celery, citrus, apples, cherries and assorted berries.   • Job brief_
The Produce Inspector is accountable for ensuring that all inbound and outbound produce meets quality standards.

The Inspector works with various areas (Produce Business Unit, Supply Chain, Distribution and Operations) to aid in the integration and adherence of policies and processes with respect to Quality thereby ensuring compliance to all statutory and company requirements.


_The job holder is required to be flexible to work for 6 days per week distributed in two locations: 165 the Queens Way, Etobicoke ON & 2501 Stanfield Rd, Mississauga ON with advanced notice.

  • Responsibilities_
  • Assure the quality of produce entering the warehouse and advise if product should be accepted or rejected
  • Verify that all inbound product consistently meets our specifications for quality (size, weight, brix, colour etc) by measurement of key metrics and adherence to sampling and testing programs
  • Ensure adherence and compliance with established Quality Assurance programs and policies thereby ensuring that all produce meets the highest standards of quality
  • Complete daily/ongoing QA auditing of product (slot checks, inter branch and distribution checks)
  • Investigate and document all quality inspection findings with appropriate forms and systems (rejection reports, slot check, QA reports etc) on a daily/ongoing basis
  • Continuous communication with QA Manager and Quality Assurance Team
  • Understanding of CFIA produce inspection standards and interaction with the CFIA on matters relating to inspections and detentions
  • Contribute as a key member of the Quality team to strategic decisions and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Conduct any general duties, specific projects and responsibilities as assigned or required in a timely and professional manner

Probationary Period: 3-months or 480 hours, whichever longer

Shift Requirement:
This is a 6 day a week job from Sunday to Friday in a warehouse facility. Must be able to work approximately an 8 hour shift between the hours of 4:00am - 4:00pm. Starting times to be discussed. Some shifts may be at our Warehouse between the hours of 6:00am - 6:00pm_

  • Compensation: TBD depending on experience level
  • Benefits: Group Benefits entitlement upon completion of probation time
  • Qualifications_
  • Must be able to work in a cold environment
  • 24 years experience in a Produce Inspector function within the produce industry is preferred(Procurement, Retail, or Distribution)
Thorough knowledge of fresh produce and related items in regard to grades, sizes, colour including knowledge of CFIA/USDA standards for fresh fruits and vegetables

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of produce inspection techniques
Ability to communicate (verbally and written) effectively inter-departmentally and at various levels through out the organization

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast paced, refrigerated warehouse environment
  • Ability to work in a cooperative manner with multiple staff of varying personalities.
  • Self motivated, detail oriented, analytical and organized
Computer experience in Microsoft Windows & Excel
Raise the bar regarding company QA standards and exceptions and embrace a continuous improvement philosophy

  • Ability to lift boxes weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Valid Driver's License
