Position Summary:


The Specialized Employment Counsellor is responsible for assisting participants from various diverse inclusion groups to find and maintain employment by developing positive relationships, and motivating, and supporting them to achieve their goals and objectives as set out in their Personalized Action Plan.

Key factors include helping build confidence, becoming self-motivated, and assisting in building their skills, strengths, and abilities.

Prime Functions:


  • Provide services to participants in a welcoming, safe, and professional and ensure that their privacy rights are protected
  • Conduct "client needs assessments" and develop action plans.
  • Determine the participant's level of employment readiness and employment service needs.
  • Where required, coordinate specialized assessments to help identify realistic employment goals.
  • Facilitate access to specialized services, such as skills enhancement training, selfemployment services, and customized employment services.
  • Assist in the creation of individualized job search plans.
  • Monitor and support activities and referrals as outlined in personal action and job search plans. Document activities and referrals.
  • Refer participants to community resources and support as required.
  • Document participant eligibility, progress, and results in various databases and information systems.
  • Follow all administrative and program policies and procedures
  • Research and maintain knowledge of available programs or funding sources that lead to successful outcomes for participants.
  • Attend staff meetings and professional development training.

Qualifications:


  • Postsecondary education in a relevant field (e.g. career or employment development, vocational rehabilitation, social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, education, or human resources management) is preferred.
  • Certified Career Development Practitioner designation preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting and interpreting needs assessments and coaching and mentoring processes.
  • Experience with working with individuals with complex social barriers, and disabilities, and from a broad range of cultural backgrounds.
  • Solid knowledge of the local labour market, community resources, and available government programs.
  • Experience in interviews/assessments, professional resume writing, vocational counseling, and individualized goalsetting and planning.
  • Experience with the Ministry and other online tools such as ICM is preferred.
  • Team player with the ability to work effectively with all types of people.
  • Strong digital literacy skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficiency in English and French is preferred.
  • A valid British Columbia driver's license and a reliable vehicle.
  • Able to clear a vulnerable sector's criminal record check.
