The Opportunity:


What you'll do:


  • Report and write stories for online and print readers.
  • Cover all corners of Ottawa as a general assignment reporter
  • Work collaboratively with editors, photographers, and digital producers to find the best way to tell each story
  • Balance sameday news stories with profiles, liveblogs, explainers, features and alternate story formats
  • Sift through data and online resources data to find hidden, untold stories
  • Help expand production across multiple platforms and formats

Who you are:


  • A journalist with a proven track record for writing clean, wellresearched copy
  • Fluent in digital journalism and social media
  • A daily news reader, with a thumb on the pulse of the community, who can identify enterprise stories and set the news agenda
  • Able to work under pressure and hit deadlines
  • Excellent communicator and collaborator
  • Enthusiastic about experimenting with new ways to tell uniquely Ottawa stories

Qualifications:


  • A journalism degree or significant work experience
  • Experience working in a daily news environment
  • Demonstrated success in producing wellwritten, wellresearched daily news stories
  • Experience with video, illustration and data visualization is an asset
  • Bilingualism is an asset
  • A valid G driver's license
