Business and Financial Planning (BFP) provides both Council and ELT with important financial information to make strategic decisions on the services and service levels for the taxpayers and businesses of Peel Region.


In addition to providing strategic financial leadership and recommendations to the departmental leadership teams on financial performance, operating and capital planning, along with business analysis, BFP partners with the leadership teams to execute program and corporate strategic deliverables, as well as provide an organizational perspective to the business.

As the Supervisor, Financial Support Unit, you will provide dedicated financial support to the operational and strategic initiatives of your client groups in the Human Services Department.


This position will be responsible for coordinating and developing operating and capital budgets, all year-end processes, audit working papers and various filings with the Province.

This Supervisor, Financial Support Unit position will report to the Manager, Financial Support Unit, Human Services.


What the role requires:


  • A university degree or college diploma, and a recognized professional accounting designation (CPA/ACCA)
  • A minimum 5 years of relevant experience, particularly in municipal finance
  • Experience in leading a team of specialized professionals, ability to provide effective coaching and mentorship, demonstrates sound judgement and decision making
  • A solid understanding of municipal finances which will be fundamental to coordinate the preparation of the client's operating and capital budgets, forecasts and triannual reports
  • In addition to the CPA/ACCA designation a combination of education and experience may be considered

Skills/Abilities:


  • Strong knowledge of accounting practices and principles
  • Experience supervising, plan for and analyze highly complex financial and business related issues for management teams to help them make high level strategic decisions
  • Experience providing strategic financial leadership and recommendations to identify problem areas and provide solutions
  • An analytical background and solid financial knowledge
  • Strong report writing skills
  • Experienced with reporting to the various ministries on an annual and quarterly basis
  • Ability leading staff and completing projects of varying terms and complexity
  • Well informed on the relevant acts, regulations, policies and administrative procedures related to housing programs
  • Excellent computer skills, including experience using financial spreadsheets and modelling
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias

Nice to have:


  • Experience with report writing to a Board of Directors or Council
In this role, you'll enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement.

This means you'll have the ability to work off-site and on-site as needed, depending on operational needs at the
10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton worksite.

The frequency of on-site work may vary from week to week, depending on operational demands, which can evolve over time.

It's important to note that your off-site work location must be within the province of Ontario. This ensures that we're compliant with all regulations and policies.
