Position Title: Director, Fundraising

Location: Hybrid (1-2 days per week at our downtown office)

Compensation: $95,000 - $125,000 salary

Terms: Full-time, permanent

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director, Fundraising is responsible for leading and executing the Foundation's comprehensive fundraising strategy to ensure long-term financial sustainability and growth.

This senior leadership role oversees donor engagement across individual giving, major gifts, corporate partnerships, grants, and third-party events, while building a strong culture of philanthropy grounded in Indigenous values, relationships, and reciprocity.

The Director, Fundraising works collaboratively with staff, Board members, volunteers, and community partners to strengthen donor confidence, increase revenue, and deepen relationships with supporters.

Through strategic planning, stewardship, and storytelling, this role plays a critical part in advancing the Foundation's mission, capital priorities, and reconciliation commitments.

PRIMARY ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Fundraising Leadership (35%)

  • Lead annual fundraising planning, including revenue forecasting, budgeting, and performance tracking across all revenue streams.
  • Provide strategic direction for individual giving, monthly giving, major gifts, corporate and foundation partnerships, grants, and fundraising events.
  • Identify new funding opportunities and donor segments to diversify and grow revenue.
  • Prepare regular fundraising reports and analysis for the Executive Director and Board, including progress toward goals, risks, and opportunities.
  • Support Board members and senior volunteers in their fundraising roles through coaching, tools, and solicitation strategies.

Donor Relations & Major Gifts (30%)

  • Manage a portfolio of major donors and prospects, including cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive donor stewardship framework that reflects Indigenous values of relationship, respect, and accountability.
  • Oversee donor recognition, acknowledgements, and impact reporting to ensure timely, meaningful, and culturally appropriate engagement.
  • Collaborate with program and community partners to translate impact into compelling donor communications.
  • Strengthen donor retention and upgrade strategies, including annual and monthly giving programs.

Campaigns, Events & Partnerships (20%)

  • Lead fundraising campaigns, including annual appeals, capital campaigns, and special initiatives.
  • Provide strategic oversight and support for third-party fundraising events and community-led initiatives.
  • Develop and manage corporate partnerships and sponsorship opportunities.
  • Ensure fundraising events and activities are aligned with revenue goals, donor experience best practices, and organizational values.
  • Evaluate the return on investment (ROI) and impact of fundraising activities to guide future decision-making.

Fundraising Operations & Systems (10%)

  • Oversee the effective use of donor databases and fundraising systems.
  • Ensure accurate donor data, reporting, and compliance with CRA and fundraising best practices.
  • Establish and monitor fundraising metrics, dashboards, and KPIs.
  • Collaborate with communications staff and consultants to ensure fundraising messaging is donor-centred and consistent.

Other Duties as Assigned (5%)

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • University degree or diploma in Fundraising, Nonprofit Management, Business, Communications, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive fundraising experience, including leadership responsibility in the charitable or nonprofit sector, preferably within Indigenous-led or community-based organizations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous worldviews through lived experience or meaningful professional engagement.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES

  • Proven success in meeting and exceeding fundraising revenue targets.
  • Strong experience with major gifts, donor stewardship, and relationship-based fundraising.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage fundraising strategies, budgets, and timelines.
  • Experience working with Boards and senior volunteers on fundraising initiatives.
  • Proficiency with donor management systems and reporting tools.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Sound judgement, professionalism, and commitment to ethical fundraising practices.
  • Passion for Indigenous health, wellness, and Traditional Healing practices.
  • Flexibility to attend occasional evening and weekend events.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle is an asset.
