    Description:

    The University of Toronto's Acceleration Consortium is pioneering a significant change in scientific exploration to speed up technology advancement. The consortium, composed of academia, industry, and government, is harnessing the potential of artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and high-throughput chemistry to establish self-driving laboratories (SDLs) known as materials acceleration platforms (MAPs). These autonomous labs swiftly create materials and molecules crucial for a sustainable future, with applications across renewable energy, electronics, and pharmaceuticals.

    As a Staff Research Scientist within SDL2: Organic, you will play a key role in advancing AI-driven autonomous discovery and fabricating essential materials and molecules to tackle major societal challenges like climate change, water pollution, and future pandemics.



  • Position: Staff Research Scientist (Term, 2 years) Department: Organic Synthesis

    • Desired Expertise:


    Organic small molecules expertise includes:
    • Multi-step synthesis and purification of complex small molecules
    • High-throughput organic synthesis, purification, and processing
    • Characterization of small molecules using various techniques
    • Enabling synthetic technologies like flow chemistry, photochemistry, and electrochemistry

    Additional desired expertise:
    • Artificial intelligence / automation expertise involving machine learning, robotics, programming, and high-performance computing

    You will collaborate with leading experts at U of T, including Professors Alán Aspuru-Guzik and Sophie Rousseaux, to drive innovation and research in the field. The role requires working independently to develop AI and automation technologies for self-driving labs, manage the SDLs efficiently, and implement research programs aligned with the consortium's scientific goals.

    Responsibilities include:

    Minimum Qualifications:


    Education: Ph.D. in engineering, chemistry, physics, computer science, or related field
    Experience:
    • 1 to 5 years of accelerated research and development experience
    • Expertise in AI, automation, and self-driving lab development
    • Experience presenting at academic conferences

    Skills:
    • Effective communicator
    • Collaborative team player
    • Ability to work independently

    Other:
    • Strong publication record
    • Success in writing manuscripts and reports
