$ $20/hr based on experience

The Ignatius Jesuit Centre (IJC) is a 640-acre private property with public access situated just beyond the northern edge of the City of Guelph.

The Centre is home to a world-class retreat house, organic farm, and a conservation property called the Old-Growth Forest Project.


The Road and Equipment Maintenance Worker will be responsible for the maintenance of the road infrastructure at IJC and equipment in the Land Department.

Road infrastructure includes paved and unpaved roads, and five main parking areas.

The Land department uses a variety of equipment including a truck/plow, a small and large tractor, electric ATV, and numerous small engine tools.

In the winter the Road and Equipment Maintenance Worker is also part of the IJC snow removal team.


The Land Department supports IJC's vision of cultivating spiritual growth and ecological engagement through work with the natural spaces on the main property and Old-Growth Forest Project.

It is the Land Department's goal, with the help of local community and volunteers, to restore and protect these diverse ecological communities and to assist in their regeneration.


KEY ACTIVITIES

  • Maintain walkways, roadways, and parking areas throughout the property
  • Conduct road grading and repairs
  • Perform regular inspections and maintenance on vehicles and machinery
  • Proficiently operate departmental machinery including operation of snow plow, chainsaws, and tractor
  • Perform seasonal equipment change-over in both Spring and Fall
  • Acquire supplies for IJC maintenance activities and equipment operations
  • Support in the maintenance and stocking of IJC outhouses and hermitages as needed
  • Be responsible for snow removal on the property, including plowing, salting, shoveling
  • Collaborate with other departments at IJC
  • Must be available to be on-call weekends December-April for snow removal work

LICENCES AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Able to safely lift 50lbs repeatedly
  • Work
- or life-experience with the maintenance of roadways, vehicles, and/or machinery

  • Experience with small engine repair and maintenance
  • Able to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Adapts a continuous learning approach to all activities
  • WHMIS Training and Health & Safety an asset
  • Chainsaw experience and certification an asset
