Position Summary:

The primary purpose of the Project Coordinator is to facilitate the Build the Future Project, which includes both the coordination of pre-apprenticeship numeracy, sector-specific skills and mandated safety training with 3rd party trainers; and the direct facilitation of 'soft skills' training (communication, problem-solving, productivity etc.) to two cohorts of 10 job seekers.

The Coordinator will also facilitate labour market placements for the trainees in the construction or manufacturing sectors; and offer intensive support for retention by conducting regular on-site monitoring.

It is the expectation that all training will be delivered in-person at various training locations.

The Project Coordinator will co-ordinate on-site client recruitment, intake and assessment; conduct community outreach with referral partners and sponsoring employers.

The Project Coordinator will also liaise with the 3rd party trainers to ensure success for the participants.

As an active front-line member of the Employment Services Team, the Project Coordinator will offer job search coaching to project participants; assist them to develop job search tools and liaise with on-site job developers.

The Coordinator will also be responsible for remaining current on labour market information:
and the construction/manufacturing sectors with a particular emphasis on the apprenticeship process.

The Coordinator will effectively meet all activities and targets of the project; co-ordinate client tracking and be responsible for all required reports to the ministry (MLITSD).


Scope:

Funded by MLITSD through their Pre-apprenticeship Project Fund, Build the Future is an intensive program designed to support newcomers and persons with disabilities to obtain work in the construction and manufacturing trades.

The project is designed to build employability skills in the context of a Canadian workplace; to deliver mandated and sector-specific health and safety training; and to offer paid experiential exposure to the breadth of the construction and manufacturing trades.

The training will be delivered over 14 weeks with 4 weeks in class followed by a 10-week work placement. There will be two cohorts of 10 participants. This project falls within the Try a Trade funding stream.

Competencies Required

a)Strong presentation/facilitation skills; high comfort level in public arenas; ability to facilitate experiential workshops and group sessions in a positive and dynamic manner

b)Comfort using a variety of training modalities and an understanding of learning differences and challenges

c)Experience working in a fast-paced environment with dynamic and rapidly changing responsibilities

d)Knowledge of local resources, programs that assist with employment goals and ability to appropriately refer

e)Ability to counsel clients in a supportive, solution-focused manner and to promote confidentiality as the norm

f)Must treat all individuals with equal respect and interact in a tactful, supportive, professional manner

g)Ability to work with limited supervision and considerable self-direction

h)Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment with co-workers, clients and partners.

i)

Willingness to comply with the established agency performance standards which includes:
productivity/personal responsibility; customer centered service; collaborative team performance ;entrepreneurial attitude and maintaining a high level of professionalism.

j)Thorough knowledge of funding parameters, eligibility criteria, KEYS programs, reporting guidelines and client file maintenance protocols


Qualifications:

a)Post-secondary education preferably in Education, Human Resources, Employment/Career Counselling or combination of education and relevant work experience

b)Prior experience supporting newcomers and/or persons with disabilities will be considered a definite asset

c)Minimum of 2 years of experience with group facilitation

d)Demonstrated understanding of local labour market; particularly the construction and manufacturing sectors; and the apprenticeship process.

e)

Excellent English communication skills:
verbal and written is required. A second language will be considered an asset.

Work Environment (Equipment, Demands and Hazards)

a)Classroom setting with occasional travel to other sites within the Greater Kingston area.
